Talk of a Sequel to Trainspotting

Posted by on Tue, Mar 12, 2013 at 11:08 AM

It's all highly speculative, of course, but apparently Danny Boyle made mention of the possibility at a South by Southwest screening for footage of his upcoming effort, Trance.

"This has been a long time coming," Boyle told the Playlist after revealing footage from his upcoming film, Trance. "There's always been this long-term plan for Trainspotting 2. If [original screenwriter John Hodge] can produce a decent enough script, I don't think there will be any barriers to Ewan or any of the cast coming back."

Well, for starters, let's hope they don't call it Trainspotting 2. For continuers, it seems a dubious prospect to furnish a sequel to this film, and I say that as a total fan of the first one. For continuers of the continuers, have you ever read the book, as it was first released? I tried to read a paperback copy I bought in London and could not make a damn lick of sense out of it. I remember when I saw it at the Egyptian with my older brother (thinking I was so cool for being a nine-year-old and seeing an R-rated movie), when they passed out a key to Scottish slang before the curtains. Trance trailer, starring that rich kid from Shameless, after the cut.

The fact that Boyle wrote a decent sequel helps...

Yeah - Porno wasn't a terrible book. Might even make a good movie.

Trainspotting takes about 30 pages to get used to, but it really helps if you try and hear it in your head, phonetically. Shiten yer kekks starts to make sense when you do that ( you doss cunt).

I would die a happy man if they did this and it turned out as great as I rather suspect it could. Doubting it could is fine, but lazy.

Filth has been made into a film and it may be in the post-production stage or completely finished. Loved the book and will be a great film if it is very much of the book.

If you think Irvine Welsh is difficult to understand, try some James Kelman.

Skagboys is quite good. Prequel. So combine a bit of that with Porno, and we are all laughing.

Porno would have to be seriously rethought to work as a movie...at least, a movie that qualifies for an R rating.
