State Senator Rodney Tom Dicks Over Washington Women

Posted by on Tue, Mar 12, 2013 at 1:29 PM

Despite assuring women that he totally supports a bill requiring insurance carriers to equally cover pregnancy and abortion costs in their insurance plans—and will do whatever he can to get the recently passed House bill passed in the Senate—State Senator Rodney Tom (Fucking Weasel, Medina) has instead maneuvered to effectively kill the bill.

You see, as Senate Majority Leader (a position he also attained with his weasely prowess), Tom is responsible for assigning bills to the appropriate Senate committees. And instead of assigning the Reproductive Parity Act to the Senate's Financial Institutions, Housing & Insurance committee where it was promised a fair hearing and vote from the committee's Democratic chair, Tom instead sent the bill to the Senate's Healthcare Committee, headed by anti-choice Sen. Randi Becker (R-Eatonville).

Becker has scheduled a hearing on the bill for April 1, but given that her nine-person committee includes five Republicans, and only one Republican senator has stepped up to support this legislation (Sen. Steve Litzow—who's not part of the healthcare committee), there's little hope of the RPA making it to the Senate floor for a vote.

Christ, what a rat-faced weasel Tom is.

Won't the bill die anyway since tomorrow's the deadline for bills to get out of their house of origin?

c, don't worry, when i get my new blog going, not only am i going to make George Le Masurier resign and move back to gig harbor with bruce beckett, but i am also going to wreck these two idiots (tom, dick, and sheldon, or whoever), like their political careers will be down the toilet. they ain't got no game. i would fuck them up right now if i didn't have a 3 year old to deal with. matt batcheldor knows it, ask him.

@1 - this legislation originated in the House, so it's already beaten the mid-session cutoff deadline.

Meanwhile, if Tom and Litzow are serious about supporting RPA there are other procedural moves they could use to circumvent the roadblock in the Senate Health Committee. But of course, Tom didn't need to put the bill in that committee to begin with...

Do the folks in Medina approve of all this? I'm guessing it doesn't matter coz they'll all still be rich come D or R, but is there any outrage there about his dickishness?

I've only seen the 'rage on Slog, but my impression is that everything he's done is against what he got voted in for.

People in Medina vote for who he is, not which party he belongs to. They apparently like wealthy dickish DINOs.

He represents far more people than just those of the gold-coast community of Medina; his district extends much farther east to Redmond, etc., and as one of his constituents, I can assure you that we do NOT like this creep and are working to throw him out on his ass. The sooner the better, too.
