How Many People Will Be Shot at the NRA Convention?

Posted by on Mon, Mar 11, 2013 at 3:15 PM

Quartz reports that this year's big NRA convention will take place at the beginning of May in Houston. It looks to be a real fun time:

“Confirmed speakers include [Texas] Governor Rick Perry, former Congressman Asa Hutchinson, Governor Bobby Jindal, Senator Ted Cruz, former Senator Rick Santorum, and more.” Political commentator Glenn Beck will be the featured speaker at the “Stand and Fight” rally.

Bring Junior along. “The ever-popular air gun range is a top attraction – both for participants and observers. NRA offers diverse seminars throughout the three-day convention, including methods of concealed carry; hunting; Firearms Law; the Grassroots Workshop; and Refuse to Be a Victim®.”

Based on how many people were injured during Gun Appreciation Day back in January, I think we could be looking at a world's record for accidental shootings in Houston this year. So let's place our bets now:

No one will be shot, as long as they Refuse To Be A Victim(R).

"Accidentally" implies that the purpose of having a gun is something other than shooting someone.

I'm as tired of the NRA's dangerous, short-sited antics as the next sensible person, but taking a poll over how many people will be shot at their party seems crass.

Wonder how many will be shot with intent. These are serious gun people. They don't have accidents, 'cause they shoot you on purpose...;-G

i think the real question is, "how hard does paul constant's dick get thinking about people getting shot at the nra convention?"

Nobody will be shot. The NRA has to be careful about the optics of this thing. they have to validate their argument that owning a gun makes you safer. Allowing even one person to be shot by an AD will cause them to lose that argument.

So what do you guys do when nobody get's shot at their convention? Does that then make them right?

I mean, sure it's fun to snark at hillbilly Red State'ers but what the fuck is this supposed to prove?

How many people have been shot at their past 10 - 20 conventions? I'm betting it's not many. If any. I don't know for sure. But why not look that up first before posting this thread?

And if you factor in the ratio of the number of guns (very high) to the number of people I bet, even if there are shootings, the shootings are below national averages.

Does that make them right?

No. It's meaningless. It's a stupid game to play. One where they will win.
