Rand Paul Is Bringing the Thunder in 2016

Posted by on Fri, Mar 8, 2013 at 1:32 PM

Now that Rand Paul is a media darling for talking for thirteen hours straight about an issue that people on the far left and the far right both agree is totally fucked up, he seems to be developing an eensy case of hubris:

Paul himself seemed to appreciate that this was an important moment for himself, confidently acknowledging to POLITICO in an interview that he was “seriously” considering running for president in 2016.
...
“[Republicans] have to figure out how to appeal to the West Coast, New England [and] around the Great Lakes area. We need to figure out how to appeal to the blue-collar voters that voted — that were Democrats that voted for Reagan and I think are drifting back because they see us as the party of the wealthy. … I do want to be part of making the Republican Party again more of a national party, less than a regional party, which I think we’re in danger of becoming.”

So he thinks he can make the Republican Party appeal to poor people. Funny that Paul doesn't mention appealing to minorities or women. He's riding high on a crest of popularity this week, but if he thinks he can make America forget that he's a carbon copy of his looney-tunes dad because he happened to take the right stand on a single issue, he's in for a rude awakening.

if one thinks that drones are "totally fucked up" does that necessarily make one either "far left" or "far right"? we can't be just left and think that? ("no! if extra-judicial assassination bothers you then you must also want to dictate equal distribution of all wealth!")

There's nothing to agree on since the issue doesn't even exist.

Rand Paul will make an excellent President of the Confederacy.

That is what what he's running for, right??
(In a run for Prez of the United States, on the other hand, he'd be laughed right outta the room!)

The idea that Rand Paul wants to appeal to the poor, but not women or minorities, brings up a number of thoughts. A comparison to the "socialist" aspect of National Socialism being the first.

The GOP will continue to alienate everyone who isn't wealthy and white, but when they pander to Latinos, they at least have the right idea about where they can get some votes. Poor people either don't vote, or vote Democratic.

I'm pretty sure the libertarian platform is WAY more mexico friendly than anything the democrats have going on; basically open borders right? so they got that, which is kind of a big deal re: minorities.

but of course homeboy could never express his true political ideals and still get the support from the center/right so no biggie.

I predict he will do something so stupid and endlessly replayable between now and the general election that he will essentially eliminate himself from the competition.

See Palin, Santorum, Perry, Cain, Dean.

It makes perfect sense that a Libertarian would be bashed on a Fabian socialist blog. Considering that the world's largest corporations are all major advocates of Fabian socialism, it is a wonder that the young people of today don't see the grandiose irony in this.

Well-executed social engineering, anyone?
