City / Film Opening Today: A Young Oz, a Gay Israeli, a Climate-Change Agit-Doc, and a Nightmare Version of The Sound of Music

This "sun" thing won't last forever. Lucky for us, there are indoor entertainments.

*Oz the Great and Powerful finds James Franco and Sam Raimi telling the pre-Dorothy story of the Wizard of Oz. Paul Constant says it's charming and sweet, but insists Danny Elfman must immediately stop scoring movies.

*Lore is an intense and compelling drama about life in Nazi Germany, which Bethany Jean Clement hails as "the nightmare version of The Sound of Music."

*Greedy Lying Bastards is a " thoroughly researched, clearly presented agit-doc" about how oil and petroleum interests have concocted a "debate" on climate change, writes Brendan Kiley. "[The film] demonstrates that if you say something often enough, and say it while wearing a suit, some people will start to believe it.

*Yossi is a sequel to the 2002 film Yossi & Jagger, a romantic drama about the secret love affair between two Israeli soldiers. Yossi picks up the story ten years later, and it's a small, smart, sexy slice-of-life film whose charms might be lost on those who missed the first film.

ummm....i was pretty sure that either yossi or jager, like, died, in the first one? is there some sort of hebrew ouija board involved?
