Because Guns Make Us Safer

Posted by on Fri, Mar 8, 2013 at 2:58 PM

I'm just sayin'...

A New York town that began assigning an armed police officer to guard a high school in the wake of the Connecticut massacre has suspended the program after an officer accidentally discharged his pistol in a hallway while classes were in session.

How can you post a story about guns without mentioning anything about what is happening in Greenlake right now?

If a couple of kids have to accidentally get shot so I can have my guns in schools, that's the price to pay for freedom. or something.

WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY

I agree that firearms should be taken away from the Police in the anti-Constitution state of New York

Goldy, thank you for once again letting us know that "guns are dangerous" this kind is hard hitting journalism is why you are so successful and will claim a place next to Woodward and Bernstein in the Journalism Hall of Fame.

Perhaps in the future you can continue this great service to society and link us to some articles about other items that the general public may not know are dangerous, like motorcycles and circular saws.

I agree that this country should be a war zone so that grown men can act like soliders, although they are too chickenshit to join the army, and gun manufacturers can maximize profits. There's only one right, and it should be morphed to mean whatever gun manufacturers want it to read.

There are some simple rules for handling firearms that can be translated to derp including "Don't put your bugger hook on the bang switch. "

@5, I am unaware of any political drive to station guards with running circular saws or motorcycles in school hallways. There is one right now with guns. And, as any rational person would expect, an unintended use is the first one off the bat -- because unintended uses are the most common kind of gun use. People are clumsy. Armed guards in schools means more gun deaths, not fewer.

Bats can kill people too.

Just look at all our graveyards where the tombstone reads "killed by a bat-wielding maniac".

Um.

@8, this is the cartoonish level people who propose to have armed guards in every school operate at:

Sheriff Arpaio Recruits Aging Action Star Steven Seagal To Train Vigilantes To Patrol Schools

The real purpose was of course to sell more guns in light of the Sandy Hook tragedy. The NRA only operates on behalf of the gun manufacturers that fund it.

Nobody dies when motorcycles and circular saws are used properly and for their intended purposes.

@11 See... You're a bit confused here, so let me explain to you how it is that guns make us all safer:

Guns are used for shooting up things (like targets, tin cans or the air), animals (dangerous, tasty or annoying), brandishing (no harm there) and for valuing their aesthetic or historic properties (badass'n, nazi'n and man-card restor'n). These are all so quintessentially American that no one can be against them, 'cause FREEDOM, and now we're all safer.

Now, occasionally a Good Guy with a Gun will be called upon to shoot a Bad Guy. Only the Bad Guy is hurt, so we're all safer.

You might ask about how someone becomes a Bad Guy, but that's really between God, their pastor and them, so we'll just remind you that Good Guys with Guns stop Bad Guys, and therefore anyone harmed wasn't good enough, and we're all safer.

Sometimes there is an accidental discharge, but because guns don't kill people, people do, we know that either God is taking one of his angels home, or, this is simply a Good Guy with a Gun, taking out the Bad Guy who just shot him, and we're all safer.

@8/10

You guys realize this was a police officer not a security guard right?

You know they holy police, the only ones that can be trusted with guns despite having less training that most CCW holders.

Also how were you planning to stop an armed maniac without using a gun? Got any ideas aside from stripping natural rights of 300,000,000+ American citizens?

And sorry FNARF, you said "because unintended uses are the most common kind of gun use" that, like most of you gun related opinions, is just flat out wrong. Every day millions of guns are used at gun ranges with no one getting shot. and don't forget that a good portion (around 10%) of gun homicides are by the police or people using guns in self defense which also clearly falls into intentional use

The article also needs to clarify if it was an "accidental discharge" meaning equipment malfunction or a "negligent discharge" meaning user error. If it was the latter and no one was harmed the officer was doing things right.

So Goldy posts another "sarcastic" headline about a cop with a gun and an accidental shooting.

Still waiting for the point, Goldy.
Should cops be allowed to carry guns?
Should cops that have accidentally fired their gun be allowed to carry guns?

Sarcasm is not journalism.
And pointing out that a dangerous item is dangerous while sarcastically trying to imply that no one else knows that is just trolling.

But at least you weren't riding on a dead child with this story.
I suppose that's an improvement over your last attempt.

Liberal divorce laws dried up the private detective work that lured Barney Fife to Raleigh from Mayberry, so he packed up and moved North to be the One Good Man in a high-school hellhole.

Sheesh. If you just gave all the seniors handguns, you wouldn't need to pay an armed guard.

@14 You nailed it. The problem couldn't be more clearly defined nor the solution made clearer

"You know they holy police, the only ones that can be trusted with guns despite having less training that most CCW holders."

Our police have less training then most CCW holders. Therefore the police must not be a "well regulated Militia" Whereas CCW holders being better trained, must be a "well regulated Militia"

How do we know CCW holders are well trained? They had to go through some sort of training and licensing program. The police of course do not do this.

Therefore the solution is to take the guns away from the police and give them to people who have gone through some sort of training program and passed.

Your brilliant Cas Bac! Want a gun hell yeah go buy one, right after you demonstrate that you have been trained and are well regulated in its use.

Hell freezes over!

I can't believe it myself! I am in 100% agreement with Goldy's gun-rant-du-jour.

Guns do not make us safer when wielded by a cop. Ergo, cops should not have guns.
