What Will You Be Reading at the Reading Party in Three Hours?

Posted by on Wed, Mar 6, 2013 at 3:00 PM

Can't. Wait. For. Fireplace. Times. I mean, look at it outside. It's gross. I've been reading Infinite Jest for six weeks now, so I'm on page… oh, let's not talk about it. But I'll be reading that. And you? What are you reading?

By the way: If you're bookless and you want some recommendations, there was a dinner party recently where a bunch of Seattle writers (Rebecca Brown, Lesley Hazleton, Stacey Levine, Charles Mudede, Sierra Nelson, et al) were asked to name the most powerful thing they read in 2012. To see all the books that were mentioned, click right here (and scroll down).

I was planning on The Prince, but B&N didn't have it in stock (seriously?). I ended up springing for Catch-22.

I'm trying to raise the bar for my reading material. I have no idea how successful I'll be.

Good choice Hover Dog.

Also, Infinite Jest is entirely too long and so are its footnotes. It does have some good parts, but Wallace's shorter works are better. Try Brief Interviews or Girl with Curious Hair.

I finished a Conrad novella called Falk, and continued Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

Infinite Jest took me 6 months. The worst part, from what I remember, was pages 150-350 or so.

I've been on Infinite Jest for the better part of a year now. I am so sick of it, but I can't bring myself to quit again for the 3rd time.
