Tucker Carlson Is Still a Dick

Posted by on Tue, Mar 5, 2013 at 8:12 AM

This morning's story about professional asshole Tucker Carlson inspired me go back and reread the transcript of the single best on-air beat down in the history of CNN:

STEWART: You know, the interesting thing I have is, you have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably.

CARLSON: You need to get a job at a journalism school, I think.

STEWART: You need to go to one. The thing that I want to say is, when you have people on for just knee-jerk, reactionary talk...

CARLSON: Wait. I thought you were going to be funny. Come on. Be funny.

STEWART: No. No. I'm not going to be your monkey.

[snip]

CARLSON: I do think you're more fun on your show. Just my opinion. OK, up next, Jon Stewart goes one on one with his fans...

STEWART: You know what's interesting, though? You're as big a dick on your show as you are on any show.

So, yeah. Stewart pretty much nailed it back in 2004.

For a split second, as the page loaded, I read "Tucker Carlson Is Still a Dick" as "Tucker Carlson Is Dead."

So, what's Tucker's point? "They all look alike?" He fucking published a goddamned VIDEO of the hooker in question. I'd trust the Post to be able to find a live person, with a video portrait of them to work with, more than I'd trust Tucker and his puppet-masters to tell the truth.

I like my dick. It shouldn't have to be compared to Tucker Carlson. That's just insulting. To my dick.

That Crossfire interview was one of my favorite things ever

Aww, you snipped the part where he mocked Carlson for being a grown-ass man that still wears a bow-tie.

Those poor right wing nuts. They can't make any ground without vicious lies and slanders. No need for laws or policies. Don't bother with healthcare costs, clean energy or declining standard of living. Just bribe hookers.

I think the best part of that interview was... well, all of it, but the very first thing that Stewart says to them: "Stop... hurting America."

Carlson and the withered husk of Breitbart should just join sites to reduce expenses seeing as they're interested in the same lack of "journalistic" integrity.

Doesn't the media generally ignore unverifiable allegations of sexual encounters with celebrities and politicians? I'm sure there are plenty of gay men in Los Angeles who could tell you all about their romantic trysts w/ Tom Cruise. That doesn't necessarily mean any of those stories are true. I remember when that male escort outed Ted Haggard, the journalist who broke the story said he wouldn't have reported it if the escort had not presented incriminating voice mail messages from Haggard to back up his claims.

By an incredible stroke of luck I just happened to be home from college, flipping channels, and caught this episode of Crossfire live. It was one of the most amazing things I'd ever seen on television. Jon Stewart is the man. He single handedly embarrassed that show right off the air.

@ 1, that would be nice if true, but I'd still rather have him around than Breitbart. Carlson's just a clown.

@ 10, I'm not sure what your point was. The reliable media outlets DID ignore this "scandal," and it's only getting attention now that it's being alleged to have been trumped up by these guileless assholes.

@ 11, no. Not even comparable.

that was awesome.

did you see the time Danny said he wanted to hate fuck Sen Santorum?

also awesome.

that was the last time Danny was invited to be on television.....

The only thing that beat Stewart on Crossfire was Colbert's roasting of Bush 'n friends at the White House Press Corps.

I love Stewart but Colbert is my political humorist hero.

@13 I was simply explaining why I agree w/ Dan that Tucker Carlson is indeed an asshole.

But Dano, Bill Page claims to be both a "progressive" and a "heterosexual" and loves his buddy Tucker Carlson and always appears to want to suck his dick?????

Could it be that Bill Page isn't a "libral"??? Could he be just another faux crat, in actuality a neocon? Therefore, the rest of us who truly consider Tucker Carlson, who failed at his show, then immediately became a highly paid and subsidized fellow at the Cato Institute (could easily have been Brookings, or Heritage or Hoover, or the Peterson Institute, or some other super-rich stink tank, etc.) because losers can never be allowed to fail (Geo. Weasel Bush, John Boehener, Jeb Bush who has spawned a serial stalker and a forever rehab inhabitiant, etc.).

Yes, Tucker Carlson is indeed a dick!

It's not just that Stewart nailed him. It's that this is the point where Carlson's career nose dived.

What's also funny is how Paul Begala notices how inviting Jon was a huge mistake and just shuts up.

Remember when Carlson was bragging (and obviously lying up a storm) about beating up a gay guy in a park bathroom because he thought the guy hit on him? I wrote to Keith Olberman begging him to make him his worst person that day but got nothing. I suppose it was because Carlson was on MSNBC with Olberman at the time.

I too saw this air live. I was visiting a friend in NYC who, as a free-lance graphics person with 25+ years of sterling work, often gets called to work for the Daily Show (and before it, The Jon Stewart Show) and she saw the interview and used her magic tool called Tivo (which I'd never seen) to back everything up and record it. We were enthralled!

No, no. This, THIS was the best take down of that evening:

STEWART: You're on CNN. The show that leads into me is puppets making crank phone calls. (AUDIENCE LAUGHTER) What is wrong with you?

No, the best part of that interview happened slightly afterward, when the new CEO of CNN watched it, decided Stewart was right, and promptly fired Carson and cancelled his show.

I just read Stewart is turning over his show to Oliver for a few months.

@ 24, I hope not. Stewart IS The Daily Show, just like Carson was The Tonight Show. Nobody will ever really fill his shoes.

That said, I can understand if Stewart is ready to move on and do something new. Especially if he has an offer to host a network late night show. (Leno has to go at some point, hasn't he?)
