Jews and Arabs to Use Separate Buses

Posted by on Mon, Mar 4, 2013 at 7:49 AM

Haaretz reports on the latest...

Starting on Monday, certain buses running from the West Bank into central Israel will have separate lines for Jews and Arabs.

The Afikim bus company will begin operating Palestinian-only bus lines from the checkpoints to Gush Dan to prevent Palestinians from boarding buses with Jewish passengers. Palestinians are not allowed to enter settlements, and instead board buses from several bus stops on the Trans-Samaria highway.

Last November, Haaretz reported that the Transportation Ministry was looking into such a plan due to pressure from the late mayor of Ariel, Ron Nahman, and the head of the Karnei Shomron Local Council. They said residents had complained that Palestinians on their buses were a security risk.

Apparently this is being done for the benefit of the Arabs...
Transportation Ministry officials are not officially calling them segregated buses, but rather bus lines intended to relieve the distress of the Palestinian workers.
This only shows how hard it is for even humans, the animal with the most complex cultural memory system known, to learn from history.

Going to the west bank ( East side of the wall) there are allready separate Arabic buses that leave from Arabic bus stations. There are pretty much only Arabs and a few tourists on these busses. Nobody is checking though.

Good Morning Charles,
Wow, that is most unfortunate. Indeed, it is segregation plain and simple. This complicates things all right for peace in the Near East and Israel in particular. When the law allows for this kind of treatment of a group of fellow humans in the name of "security", it can allow for any other type of stricture. Pure rationalization. I'm really not sure how the Obama Administration can tolerate this considering Obama himself is to visit Israel this month(?).

The Middle East should unite into a republic, a union of states and impose the rule of law. That probably would require ground intervention by the US...which was successful in Iraq. Not going into Egypt and Libya when they begged us...lost that opportunity.

Hey, remember last week when some ever-so-earnest liberal Israeli apologist showed up to lecture us all for hours about how comparing the occupation of Palestine to apartheid was like the worst thing ever?

Good times, good times. I wonder where that guy is now. Because now would be an awesome time to tell him to go fuck himself.

(Bailo is off his meds again, I notice.)

@3: Opposite day much? Ground intervention was unsuccessful in Iraq, and we intervened in Libya when they asked, and Egypt didn't ask us to intervene.

Wouldn't want the non-Palestinians to experience the same treatment, naturally.

Poor Israelis. Their economy can't survive without cheap Palestinian labor, so they're forced to suffer letting Palestinians across the border every day. Poor, poor Israelis.

Since over half the Israeli population already acknowledges apartheid policies against Palestinians, the people in charge thought there was no harm in making it even more explicit.

@3 - So you really have to inflict your lack of humanity on us?

Wow, that sucks. I am not impressed. Segregation is a bummer.

@10 - They steal Palestinian land to protect themselves from bombers too?

@10: They're so nice to protect Palestinians like that.
