Jeb Bush Announces He's Running for President in 2016

Posted by on Mon, Mar 4, 2013 at 3:19 PM

Well, not exactly. But this sure does sound like a guy who's running for the Republican presidential nomination, doesn't it?

In “Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution,” former Florida Governor Jeb Bush (R) argues that undocumented immigrants shouldn’t be eligible for American citizenship, breaking from the growing bipartisan consensus surrounding reform and contradicting his own position on the issue earlier this year. The book, written with attorney Clint Bolick, will be published on Tuesday.

Bush took everyone by surprise with this announcement, but it sounds to me like this is a man who's planning on spending a lot of time talking to rural Iowans and New Hampshirites about the immoral dangers of immigration in the next few years.

I'm so surprised I could have predicted this moment 8 years ago. I'm not surprised republicans are already trying to focus on 2016.

Jeb Bush won't rule out 2016 run: "I meet all the requirements. Rich. White. And my brother caused the worst financial crash in 80 years"

About says it all.

Oh good, Washington can shift back over to campaign mode now. We can't possible address the fiscal cliff or debit limit ceiling during the 2016 election can we?

Are we going to see another GOP sorta-moderate change all his positions to become more palatable to the extreme right?

I await with bated breath for the 2014 election stuff...it will show how much change is actually coming to the GOP or whether or not they will implode from the crazy infighting.

Love watching all the flames being fanned.

That family should be forever barred from holding public office. I don't care if we have to write a fucking constitutional amendment spelling it out.

Before this announcement seemed to me like Jeb B was the strongest republican candidate for 2016 - but this makes the job a lot harder in 2015-16. Count me all smiles.

I agree entirely with Bush.

I think Work Visas should be easier to get so illegals can be made legal (or if criminal, deported) and then let them proceed towards citizenship if and when they desire and in line with the legal immigrants.

My belief is that many if not most Mexicans come here to work and make money and would just as soon return as Mexican citizens once they've built a bankroll.

I don't know if Jeb Bush is going to run, given he is going to spend half the time during a campaign explaning why he isn't his brother, and why he is so special to be President of the US.

The Republican brand is damaged says Jeb, but only as of 2009 when Obama became President. I can't wait to have George W on the campaign trail in 2015-2016.

Really if you want to criticize, you should go after the Clintons.

It was their support of NAFTA that destroyed Mexican agriculture and created the masses of unemployed who had no other option but to cross the border illegally.

It was one of the greatest unrecognized humanitarian crises of the 20th century, putting millions in peril, causing thousands to die and live terrible lives. Yet no blame is leveled at the Democrats or Clinton for this crime.

Rubio plan

He noted that at least 40 percent of an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country came on legal visas but then overstayed.

So all we need are better and longer and easier to get work visas.

@12 - My problem with the whole "They committed a crime, so we shouldn't reward that with citizenship" stance is this:

It blindly ignores the 20 or more years, say, that an alien spent contributing to our economy/society through hard labor, performing jobs so grueling and under-compensated that even our native-born unemployed are unwilling to do them.

Does that count for nothing? To me it seems that such an alien has more than paid for his crime.

And further, dealing with so much hardship just to have a chance at a better life for one's family here in the US simply exudes patriotism. To me, such an alien - illegal or not - is far more deserving of a green card/citizenship than some spoiled Indian kid with a CS degree.

Don't be fooled: the Republicans don't want illegals to get green cards or citizenship solely because it would give them the means to work anywhere. And then, who would man the 110-degree fields and chicken factories for $40/day?

Apparently, Mr. Bush has not heard the news out of Miami.

MIAMI – February 27, 2012 – The Univision Network announced today that it will close the competitive February sweep period in a historical fourth place finish during primetime among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, marking the first time the network ranks No. 4 in any February sweep period with the key 18-49 demographic. The February 2013 sweep is also the first time that Univision finishes ahead of NBC in any sweep period with Adults 18-49 in primetime. In fact, the Spanish-language network has out-performed NBC on 25 out of 27 nights since the start of the February sweep among Adults 18-49, currently holding a 26% margin. Among Adults 18-34, Univision is beating NBC by a 47% margin.

In another historical first during a February sweep, Univision finishes as the No. 1 network on Friday night among Adults 18-49, ahead of its closest competitor ABC by a 13% margin. Additionally, in its fifth consecutive sweep, Univision is also the No. 1 network on Friday nights among Adults 18-34, beating its closest competitor ABC by more than a 44% advantage.

With one day to go in the February sweep, Univision is delivering an average audience of 3.7 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.9 million Adults 18-49 and 857,000 Adults 18-34 in primetime. The Spanish-language network is also set to rank as the No. 5 network among Total Viewers 2+. In comparison to last year’s February sweep, Univision is showing audience growth of 4% among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers 2+ in primetime.

With a median age of 39 years old, Univision continues to deliver the youngest viewers during primetime versus the English-language broadcast networks: ABC (53 years old), CBS (53 years old), NBC (53 years old) and FOX (48 years old)."

So, Republicans are pretty committed to making sure that Hispanic people go Democratic at the same rate as African Americans?

The guy is just trying to sell books. There is no way in hell that another Bush is the presidential nominee, at least not in the next twenty years.

When a Republican of note reverses any positions that are not far right - that's the first sign that he's running for President.

He's trying to sell a book with his name on it so he's definitely running for President. The only guy who actually wrote a book all by himself is our current President, but there's always a book.

Just think - Bush #2 unleashed the (fraudulent) Texas miracle on us, and public education is in tatters in many places because of NCLB. With Bush #3 and his bullshit education excellence foundation/oxymoron, then we can have the Florida miracle unleashed on us, and the destruction of public education will be complete.
