Zombie Audrey Hepburn Stars in Awful Candy Bar Commercial

Posted by on Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 3:02 PM

The Verge explains how a candy company hired some very smart people to build a phony-looking simulacrum of a long-dead movie star to hawk their wares in a terrible commercial:

Everyone involved in the making of this thing should feel ashamed.

That was very creepy.

Weird commercial. Why is Audrey Hepburn sacred?

@2, Because Audrey Hepburn is perfection.

I don't get the outrage. Don't you all have a chauffeur like that? I wear that dark color of lipstick as well. Chill people, it's just an ad for Italy, right?

I wanted to be all "hey, didn't she just die a few years ago?" Turns out, I'm just getting old.

I'm glad they seated this so firmly in the uncanny valley.

I'm not especially worried. The dead have no use for their own image.

Unless they are a zombie actor, in which case they should totally sue.

Galaxy is way better chocolate than Hershey's. Everyone who makes Hershey's should be ashamed.

I don't know what the rest of you are talking about.

Looked fine to me.

And who gives a shit if a hollywood actress - alive or dead - is used in mass media?

When can we expect a Zombie Audrey Hepburn™ / Zombie Tupac™ duet?

Unfortunate. The ad would have been effective and far less distracting if they had simply filmed a Hepburn look-alike without the CGI

Mmmmmm...spokescorpse. James Dean in a Posche ad. Natalie Wood for toddler floaties. Rock Hudson for Trojan. John Ritter for Vastril. The possibilities are endless.

@11:

The late Ms Hepburn was noted for many things - singing, so far as I can recall, was not one of them.

Creepy to the max. If I believed in an afterlife, I'm sure Audrey Hepburn would be rolling in her grave at the thought of this abomination.

Also, what, they couldn't find a single living actress to do a stupid candy bar commercial? Out of 7 billion people on earth? They have to bastardize old movies and the memory of long dead actors/actresses?

Just gross.

@15 -- Yeah, cause no one likes Moon River.

Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini just toss off Oscar winning songs for talent-less hacks every day.

Why'd they get a 12 year old to portray Audrey Hepburn?

Sam Levine 20
Welcome to the future. Eventually the vast majority of what you see on screen will be all CGI, even for talent that is still alive.

Oh please, all you phony purists. All this morphing of great movies, great stars, great songs with commercialism (no matter whether it's CGI or the muppets) only makes folks think about watching Roman Holiday again. And isn't that a good thing?

It's been going on for years. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Gus 22
Ok, now can they use the same technology to replace Mickey Rooney's character in "Breakfast At Tiffany's" with a Wookiie?

Sure, having a Wookiie live upstairs would be odd and preposterous, but no more so than a white guy in yellowface who spends his days perfecting a racist pantomime and practicing it at his neighbors.

@20 - yeah, you are probably right and worse. Read Connie Willis' 1995 novel "Remake" about that very same thing. Pray we all do not live long enough to see it.

@22 - I'm totally with you on that.

Is the guy in the silver car CGI? Cause he was the best thing about that commercial - I'd much rather get a mouthful of him than some non-Cadbury British chocolate.
