Dennis Rodman As the Ugly American

Posted by on Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 8:59 AM

The former NBA star tweeted this during a recent visit to North Korea...

Now this is news to me...
It's been extensively noted that Kim Jong-un is an avid basketball fan and was a Bulls fanatic in his youth. Judging by this pic from the '90s, he has apparently been a long-time admirer of Rodman as well.

@1 North Koreans and South Koreans are mostly ethnically the same.

Could this be the beginning of 21st century "Basketball diplomacy"? Is Rodman the right guy for the job?

I will always love Rodman if only for this: Pat Smear kissing Kelsey Grammer

@ 1, this isn't racism, just geopolitical ignorance.

Secretary of State Madeline Albright once gave Kim Jong-un a basketball autographed by Michael Jordan during a visit to North Korea.

Good Morning Charles,
Yeah, I too wondered why such a fuss is being made over Rodman's visit to North Korea. As a "goodwill ambassador" is he really the right guy for the job? Everybody knows he's an attention whore and yes, a fine basketball player. But, still too much hullaballoo is being made over this visit.

That he went there is fine. It's the news coverage that's ridiculous.

Can you see Rodman's Twitter account causing nuclear war? Wouldn't that be hilarious/ Dr. Strangelove-ish? Somebody write a script!

#1 This is as racist as saying that maybe I'll see George W. Bush while I'm in Kansas.

I figure if we can get any negotiating leverage with North Korea by letting their top officials pal around with basketball players, it's Rodman's patriotic duty to hang with Kim Jong-Un.
