What Do You Think of The Conjuring Trailer?

Posted by on Wed, Feb 27, 2013 at 4:28 PM

I absolutely agree with Badass Digest's Devin Faraci about this trailer for The Conjuring: It's incredible. It's made up of two long-ish scenes, and it builds the suspense until a great payoff moment.

What we have here is probably a bad movie. (The title card that reads "From the director of Saw and Insidious" is a warning.) But I'm so sick of blender-cut trailers that this trailer leaves me desperately wanting to see the movie. A horror film that takes its time to develop a sense of menace? Yes, please!

Do you agree?

What's wrong with Saw or Insidious? They're both reasonably respected...at least in horror movie terms.

Lili Taylor and Vera Farmiga, though...

Why did I watch that? I hate horror movies. (Not judging. Just not my thing.) Even a really well done horror movie is not on my list.

That said, the only real surprise in this trailer is the claim that it is "based on a true story".

"Based on a true story"? Ha ha ha... oh yeah, that time some spirits tried to kill a family and the real-life ghost busters they hired. Totally remember seeing that on the news.

I agree though—the longer shots in the trailer held my attention.

Why do they ever go in the basement? Idiots.

Looks good. Never saw Insidious. The original Saw was fairly good.

I can see pre-movie commercials now.

Clap on...clap off. The clapper!

Getting a little sick of haunted houses, but this looks promising. It has a late seventies feel, although maybe this is just a result of the titling. Plus - Lili Taylor!

This trailer is awesome, and the exact opposite of the worst trailers ever: the ones whose succession of brief fade-ins/fade-outs are timed to an ominous pile-driver beat.

Whenever one of those comes on in the theater - which is quite often, since it's a standard way to make a trailer for a movie that's barely entered post-production - I just close my eyes until it's over.

@2 I despise Saw because it turned the horror genre into "torture porn". I go to horror to get scared, or see suspense, not to find a movie that makes me want to puke.

I love Lili Taylor, so that's all I need to know.
