Jon Huntsman Continues His Streak as the World's Worst Republican

Posted by on Thu, Feb 21, 2013 at 10:49 AM

Here's Jon Huntsman in The American Conservative, telling his fellow Republicans to support gay marriage:

.

..conservatives should start to lead again and push their states to join the nine others that allow all their citizens to marry. I’ve been married for 29 years. My marriage has been the greatest joy of my life. There is nothing conservative about denying other Americans the ability to forge that same relationship with the person they love.

All Americans should be treated equally by the law, whether they marry in a church, another religious institution, or a town hall. This does not mean that any religious group would be forced by the state to recognize relationships that run counter to their conscience. Civil equality is compatible with, and indeed promotes, freedom of conscience.

That's Jon Huntsman, everybody: A good human being, a sensible politician, a smart policy guy, and—according to other Republicans, anyway—the worst Republican on earth.

I would assume that if the two cases re gay rights are decided in the favor of gays, Republicans will rethink their position on marriage equality/gay rights. Otherwise, they'll be fighting an uphill battle to get younger voters.

I was chatting with a Republican guy who I have absolutely nothing politically in common with (other than we're both gay men) during the primary season, and conservative as he was, the only GOP candidate he could support was Huntsman.

I might vote for a Republican, if he was running against George Wallace, Strom Thurmond (before he left the Democratic Party), or the reanimated corpse of Mayor Richard J. Daley.

The GOP just might have been able to win the presidency with this guy, so of course he was the first one they threw under the bus.

@5 I hear that. I really like him on most issues, especially for a Republican

Huntsman is prepping himself to be Hillary's running mate in 2016. She'll pick him up to appear bi-partisan which the GOP never has to do but us Democrats....we apparently have to

I know the title is satiric, but at the same time it prevents someone from say sharing or tweeting in a non-ironic way.

That someone with Huntsman's resume was never a serious contender for the GOP presidential nomination tells you pretty much everything you need to know about the state of the Republican party.

Oddly, Jon Huntsman is probably the only Republican on Earth I'd vote for.

Lisa Murkowski kicks some serious ass, too, except the Republicans bounced her for a teabagger. And then she kicked his ass as well.

@2++. Anyone who thinks that women should not be in control of their own bodies is not a "good human being." Please make a note of it.

Huntsman vs. Clinton would be an extremely interesting election.

But he thinks women shouldn't be in control of their own vagina/uterus, so not that smart.
