Is it wrong to hope for a full-scale turf war with Overlake Christian?

This is where North-South traffic will go if we can't clear enough traffic to route them through Seattle.

The former John Danz theater. The Barnes and Noble next door was a bowling alley. I'm old.

Also, I can't help but yet again sense the usual Stranger heap of eastside disdain. Would we see the headline "Seattle Watch" for a new Mars Hill in town? Of course not.

The offices of Bungie Studios in the former Galleria Cinemas, just behind the former Underhill's Furniture!

I can't imagine feeling further from religion than in a megachurch in the suburbs. Do you need a giant, glitzy church to celebrate the spirit of loving and giving?

I saw Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at the old John Danz Theater. What a prophetic movie title.

I rescind my snark about the snark I perceived from the "Bellevue Watch" title. Not that anyone is paying attention.

It's really no different than say what Belltown has become..a stillborn vision of density with ragged peaks of hi-rises and in between the functional one and two story shops and business that people need and use.

Yeah, but there are people in Belltown and colors, two things that make a world of difference.

Megachurch + Bellevue = Peanut Butter + Jelly. I can't think of a more appropriate pairing.

The property of one of the most progressive, social-justice-supportive churches in Seattle, University Baptist, was bought by Mars Hill two years ago. Disgusting.

Pardon me for not understanding how churches work... does the cult of personality that is Mark Driscoll make appearances at all of his churches, now that it's a chain?

Mars Hill has been in that location for at least a year. I feel dirty every time I walk by it (which is frequently).

@23: I've heard that they live broadcast dear leader's sermons on a giant teevee, but each church also has its own pastor. No clue if ti's true, though.

Nope. That's the free market in religious ideas at work.

Btw folks, Bellevue is now more racially diverse than Seattle.

Seattle, 70% white and rising.

Bellevue, 62% white and dropping.

Looks to me that people of color are voting with their feet. What will white Seattle hipsters do?

What a waste of potential property tax and B&O revenue. All so simple-minded people can feel better about their lack of intellect.

I was in Bellevue last week. After having not been over there in a few years all I can say is for all the cosmetic changes it's still a fucking pit of corporate shallowness. It's almost as bad as being on Broadway these days.

I remember the John Danz theater from the horrible year I lived in Bellevue as a barely-teenager, but Bellevue has changed so much I forgot what block it was on. Bellevue has mostly improved since then but this is a step back. Hopefully someone will buy the property soon after the inevitable church/cult scandal, and put up a nice tower with some street-level retail and a new movie theater.
