Yes, It Was Really Kara Walker

Posted by on Mon, Feb 18, 2013 at 12:46 PM

Last week I pointed out that the artist Kara Walker had responded directly to being invoked in the story about Charles Krafft's white nationalism—or at least that I assumed the person using her name was her.

She's confirmed over email that it was, in fact, her. She says she'll send elaboration soon on two points I asked her about: Her idea that "all artworks are open to misinterpretation and redemption, even when the artists insist otherwise" and her saying, "I am also really affected by the rules — of behavior and speech, especially when they are broken as they so often are."

Commenting rages on, meanwhile.
