Slog's First Ever Hockey Happy Hour!

Posted by on Tue, Feb 12, 2013 at 10:41 AM

I fucking love hockey. And plenty of you love hockey too. So why aren't we all watching hockey together!?

Lets fill this place with hockey fans!
  • Kelly O
  • Let's fill this place with hockey fans!
Next Tuesday, February 19th, the Angry Beaver is opening its doors to us to host the first ever Slog Hockey Happy Hour!

They have poutine (with three different kinds of gravy, including vegan options!), burgers, fish and chips, drink specials for us Slog hockey fans, and a bunch of TVs to show all of the games. Wear your jersey! Bring your foam fingers! Cheer on your favorite teams and laugh when Burrows gets a penalty!

It'll officially start at 5 pm, and here's the game schedule for the evening (obviously feel free to show up early if your favorite team is playing an earlier game—all times PST):

Winnipeg vs Buffalo at 4 pm
Montreal vs NY Rangers at 4 pm
NY Islanders vs Ottawa at 4:30 pm
Toronto vs Tampa Bay at 4:30 pm
San Jose vs St. Louis 5 pm
Detroit vs Nashville (GO PREDS!) 5 pm
Vancouver vs Chicago 5:30 pm
Los Angeles vs Edmonton 7 pm

Next Tuesday, February 19th! Save the date! I'll see you then!

@3 He's a biter!

@2 Hopefully, if it's a success, we'll do more! Especially when playoffs start.

hi megan i would go if i we lived up there (and had a babysitter). you should do a regular nhl column too. why not. seattle doesn't like hockey, it would be perfect.

@5 Biter he may be but tell me what you would do in this scenario
-Your arms are being held behind your back and someone is cramming their fingers down your throat. How long would this need to continue before you bit down?
Watch the replay of the biting incident with that in mind and see what you say then.

Poutine involves cheese curds, right? How can there be a vegan version? Soy cheese?

I dream of finding a bar in Baton Rouge that shows hockey. Heck, I dream of people in Baton Rouge who know that hockey exists.

This is an awesome idea - I am a little concerned that I will have to sit in a corner by myself though in my Wings jersey...

Burrows is looking for players with good taste, not players that taste good. Go Canucks!

@12 No, no. The last time I was at the Angry Beaver to watch hockey, I saw a lot of Red Wings fans (much to my chagrin, I'll admit). There are quite a few Michiganders who have relocated to Seattle.

I'll be there for sure! Hopefully Buffalo can start stringing together some wins, and not just rely on Thomas Vanek for all their scoring.

I have it on my calendar. Will they be showing all the games? Go Sharks! I get off at 5:00, so it will take a while to get through traffic, but save me a seat. Woot!

Mrs. BHL (a Winnipeg native still getting used to there being Jets again) has informed me that our plans for the evening are canceled in favor of this. So...see you there!

@ 14, I wouldn't conclude that Seattle was overrun by Michiganders on that evidence alone. It's possible*, but the Redwings have been the most successful team of the past 20+ years, and that wins a team fans. (That said, I'd hate to be in a bar full of them, too.)

(Denver is overrun by Nebraska Cornhusker fans, but that is because lots of people from Nebraska move to Denver when they can finally get the fuck out of there.)

You won't be alone kmoondawg. There are others of us that go there, and we are very nice. :)

Great idea, too bad the two teams I follow aren't playing!
