AP: "Fugitive Ex-Cop Exchanges Fire with S. California Authorities" (Updated)

Posted by on Tue, Feb 12, 2013 at 2:20 PM

Or so the AP news alert says. No further details, but it looks like they didn't need a drone after all to track down alleged cop-killer Christopher Dorner.

UPDATE: The Los Angeles Times confirms and elaborates:

Christopher Dorner was engaged in a shootout with federal authorities in the Big Bear area Tuesday, a law enforcement source told The Times.

The shooting occurred after Dorner burglarized a home, tied up a couple and stole their car, the source said.

It was not immediately clear whether Dorner was in custody.

UPDATE, UPDATE: Twitter (from an LA Times list) says that at least two officers are reported down, and that Dorner may be fleeing in a 2008 Dodge pickup.

UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE: The latest from the LA Times:

Accused killer Christopher Dorner is surrounded by police inside a Big Bear area cabin after getting into a gun battle that left two San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies wounded.

NPR is now reporting that a charred body was removed. However, while they report that "the cabin became engulfed in flames," they aren't reporting the fact (as heard on police radio) that the police lit the fire.

For an alternative view to fnarf's @7 that Dorner is not credible:…

Another black ex LAPD who believes Dorner.

What I find most interesting is the SLOG's nearly complete lack of coverage on this situation, especially given the volume, frequency and ire of their recent anti-gun drumbeat.

Why the lack of coverage? Have the powers-that-be at the SLOG had nothing to say for once?

Or could it be because Christopher Dorner's actions as a complete psychopath fly in the face of SLOG anti-gun dogma?

Which ban-of-the week would've prevented this?

One final tidbit for you to digest. "Assault Weapons" have been banned in California since 1989 and in the ultimate hypocrisy, you're exempt from the ban while shooting a movie...

I know that Obama supporters are not really into the idea of DUE PROCESS OF LAW, but to be fair, Dorner is not a murderer until he is proven guilty in a court of law. Also as someone who has a fair amount of experience with the LAPD, they are fucked, they are still fucked and most likely they will always be fucked. Since its inception LAPD has viewed it self as a paramilitary organization that sees the public as "the enemy" and has been at the forefront of the militarization of the countries police forces as well as the gross violation of the civil rights of this nations citizens.

As 5280 said, even if he surrendered he would still be getting lit up, thus the media has been pushed back from the scene.

Seconding @8. This will not end in justice, but in a summary execution.

Trial? There won't be a trial. He won't be coming out of there alive — even if he surrenders.

@3, you're a piece of shit. In addition to being a cold-blooded murderer, Dorner is the problem LAPD that the LAPD has worked very hard to get rid of. Old-school LAPD cops don't like working with female or Asian or lesbian supervisors. That doesn't make him the victim.

"No further details, but it looks like they didn't need a drone after all"

No further I'll just pull one from my ass, because, you know, I'm like a journalist.
