School Employee Old Schools Two Students

Posted by on Mon, Feb 11, 2013 at 4:03 PM

KOMO has the story:

SEATTLE — An employee at a Seattle private school has been placed on administrative leave after allegedly hitting two students with his belt during a before-school program last Wednesday.

According to the Seattle Police Department's report for the incident, two St. Therese School students were roughhousing, throwing pencils and ignoring the morning program supervisor's requests to knock it off.

The supervisor, who was filling in for the regular morning program staff member, took off his belt and hit both students in the buttocks, according to the report.

That's the kind of schooling you get when you hire Pootie Tang...

Until I realized that "Schools" was the verb, I thought this was going to be a joke about a school employee, old schools, and two students walking into a bar or something.

It was probably illegal; and yet, there goes both kids' last, best hope to not end up D-list reality show contestants.

St. Therese? My goodness, that's a surprise - it's a pretty hippy-dippy private school. My godson goes there. Didn't Dominic mention being an alum too?

Yet, right here in river city, 21% of children go to private school, compared to 12% in King County as a whole. Quite a vote of confidence in the world-class Seattle school district, ain't it?

@6 - Or, there could be other reasons, such as the number of Catholics, and thus, the demand for Catholic schools, which are all private.

Plus, Catholic schools tend to dwarf the size of other private schools. The four largest private high schools in Seattle - Holy Names, Seattle Prep, O'Dea, Bishop Blanchet - are all Catholic.

Seattle has 24 Catholic schools. Renton has 1. Yet Seattle's population is only 7 times Renton's.

So it might have nothing to with anyone's confidence in Seattle public schools, but rather, an infestation of Catholics in Seattle.

#7, if you really think parents send their kids to Catholic schools solely or even predominantly for religious reasons, then you don't know a lot about schools, parents, or Catholics.

@8 - 80% of students that attend O'Dea are Catholic. Is 80% "predominant" enough for you? And you can bet that they make the parents prove it, since they charge non-Catholics $1,400 more.

You can't even get your kid into Holy Rosary school in West Seattle unless at least one parent is a practicing Catholic, and like O'Dea, they make you prove it. I know because they vetted me, and I was just the godfather.

AND, of course, they insist that you are raising your child as a Catholic. This is not uncommon for Catholic schools, by the way.

So tell me again how much you know about schools, parents, and Catholics.

Again - Catholic schools in Seattle: 24. In Renton: 1.

holy christ. i just came in here to tell you to never use 'old school' as a verb ever again. that was the most akward sentence to try and figure out.
