Two-Block Radius / Chow Capitol Hill Needs a Salad Bar

Here's a free million dollar idea: Someone needs to grab up one of the available store fronts near Broadway and put in a lunch spot with a salad bar that doesn't look like it's infested with E.Coli.
Who's with me? Why doesn't Capitol Hill have a salad bar!? Vegetables are delicious!

Vegetables are good, but a salad bar on Capitol Hill would be tricky. Sorry to say it, but not everyone up there is very civic-minded when it comes to food-at-large. It'd be a full-time job keeping dirty hands off things available for the grabbing. And salad bars in general can be pretty nasty. I've seen some rather disgusting things that I won't go into here. As I rule, I stay away from them. Maybe a Subway version of a salad bar, where someone with gloves on loads your plate what you point to?

@6: Only at chain restaurants (more than 20 locations) or supermarkets. I'm sure they can afford it.

There is a new salad-only restaurant in Madison Park. I find the idea of a salad-only restaurant to be weirdly appealing.

Yeah, if anything I'd vote for a Subway-esque set up. The only time I don't mind buffet style is at Mongolian grill type places, and thats because what ever you put in your bowl gets cooked to hell.

There are a bajillion salad places in DC. They're on every corner. I think Chop't is the biggest chain.

Pluto's in SF has a great salad bar, don't know why you can't find it anywhere else.
Quinns salad w lamb and Latona pub's steak and mushroom salad are two of the best around.

#5 You've nailed it. There's a chain of "subway-like" salad restaurants here in DC called Chops. You tick off what you want on a piece of paper and they put it all together for you. It's pretty damn good.

I love Seattle so much. The amount of passive aggressive in this town is so high that it's becoming hilarious. No need to tell the people who own the salad bar in question how bad their food looks, just open a shop next to them doing the same thing but better. Problem solved right? Haha

@12 - the place in Madison Valley is DELICIOUS. Seriously, its really good salad. And, I do believe they deliver a few days a week.

There's scrumptious salads for cheap at every area hospital. I recommend Cherry Hill, but you'd be heading to Swedish Broadway campus. Let me know how you like it.

@9: It's not just expense, it's also time to have items interdependently lab tested, do the signs, and the also the ability to plan menus taking advantage of staff creativity, what's on sale, and so on.

@20 - There's a place exactly like that in the City Center building (5th and Pike) called "Toss'd." As you might guess, they toss each salad, and you can control how much dressing they put on it, because just like at Subway, you're right there.
(It drives me crazy when someone orders a salad with dressing on the side rather than having it tossed. It's like saying, "Make me a shitty salad.")

The QFC at Pike & Broadway makes pretty good salads at the sandwhich bar. They're like 6 bucks, it's just like the Subway idea everyone is talking about.

@20 I went to Chops when I was in NYC last year. If one of those opened in Seattle I would be there every day, and I am a not a salad eater by nature.

There also have soups, healthy snacks (their coconut oil popcorn is like crack) and drinks that include Rachel's Ginger Beer.
