BREAKING: Political Establishment Braces for Radical Change as Port of Seattle Announces Six Finalists

Posted by on Fri, Feb 8, 2013 at 4:03 PM

In the announcement everybody has been waiting for, the Port of Seattle just released the names of the six finalists in the exciting competition to fill the port commission seat vacated by Gael Tarleton:

  • Stephanie Bowman (former 11th LD candidate)
  • Courtney Gregoire (current daughter of former governor)
  • Claudia Kauffman (former state senator)
  • Deborah Knutson (former Economic Development Council of Snohomish County president)
  • Vicki Orrico (former Bellevue City Council candidate)
  • Nancy Wyatt (current Republican)

Now, in the throes of your adrenalin rush, I know what you're thinking: What's a "port commission?" I don't know. But I hear it's really important. Something to do with port.

How much port can these folks consume? Which ones prefer tawny to ruby? Can any of them name the varietals used to make port? How 'bout a little journalism here, Stranger?

@1 a more germane question would be their consumption of herbaceous substances, since we'll be transitioning to an export economy soon.

So there was a gender requirement? I'm probably cool with that, just asking.

That's GAEL Tarleton. You should remember the name of the woman who whupped your ass in the last election.

@4 I know how to spell Gael's name. It's Friday. (And I wasn't aware that I ran in the last election.)

•Nancy Wyatt (current Republican)

Couldn't bother to do any research on other qualifications? I guess if they identify themselves as Republican's there's not need to look at qualifications, they should just be eliminated from consideration right?

Dear Stranger, please get your head out of the sand and understand that Washington needs qualified people... the reason the country is in the shape it's in is because too many media outlets use nazi-like shut em down tactics and would rather see an unqualified person with a D elected than a qualified person with a R.

Scandal! Jan Drago missed the cut? But she was the one who gave us the Monorail, the Nordstrom garage, the Storm sweetheart KeyArena lease and many other losers.

Seriously, how does being the daughter of a former governor make Courtney Gregoire a finalist for ANYTHING?

I'm sure this wouldn't be her first job... But equally sure that every other job she's gotten was facilitated by being related to 'someone.'

There's enough talent out there without needing to hire someone just because they're related to someone else... Especially if they're related to a lack-luster former governor.

@ 9 Doesn't mean she not qualified just because her mom was Governor

There's got to be something at least a little bit exciting about a group that flies that far under the radar yet still has its own real, official police force, no?

@7, there are no qualified Republicans.

I'm sorry. Call me prejudiced, but the governor's daughter? I don't think so. You're gonna have to work harder to prove to me you're not just a Mommy's girl.

@12 Sometimes you just gotta say it. The Republican Party has a record, let's just say, and even "qualified" candidates are going to have to work harder on their end to get rid of the stench.

Did you watch the videos of the applicant's presentations? Courtney is quite qualified. So is Nancy Wyatt.
