The Morning News: A Little Boy Is Still Being Held Hostage, Hackers Infiltrated the NYT, and Dan Marino Had a Lovechild

Posted by on Thu, Jan 31, 2013 at 8:13 AM

That Little Boy Who Was Abducted Yesterday: Still being held hostage in Alabama by the man who shot and killed a bus driver.

This Probably Won't End Well: Iran says there will be "grave consequences" for Israel's attack on Syria.

Chinese Hackers Have Infiltrated the New York Times For Months: Reports the New York Times.

Another Shooting, This Time in Arizona: One dead, one in critical condition, one with non-life-threatening injuries, and a shooter still on the loose.

GM Recalls Over 13,000 Cars: There is a possible airbag and/or bolt issue.

Local Druggies are Chopping Down Trees: "The tree poaching has become so rampant that the Sheriff's Office now has a designated deputy who patrols the forest trying to prevent thieves from cutting down trees that have been growing for many decades."

How MIT Can Honor Aaron Swartz: "Fight to make academic journals open to everyone."

I Never Noticed How Much Dan Marino Looks Like David Hasselhoff: Anyway, Marino had a love child with a CBS employee while still married to his wife.

Are You Fucking Kidding Me?: A "gay" dog was abandoned by his owner after the owner saw the dog mount another male dog, and now the dog might be put down since he has no home. GOOD JOB, HUMANS. WAY TO BE WINNERS.

Speaking of Terrible Humans: "Pastor claimed his penis had been anointed with the 'Holy Spirit divine semen' and raped his faithful."

Sobrino Valdeci Picanto, 59, was arrested in Apore, GoiÁs, Brazil, for raping several women attending his church. He gave as an excuse that his penis had been consecrated with “divine semen of the Holy Spirit.”

A 23-year-old young woman, who prefers to remain anonymous said, “He has convinced us that only God could come into our lives through the mouth.”

Ugh times 1,000.

Best Headline of the Day?: "Fossilized shark poo hides 270 million-year-old tapeworm eggs."

"How Long Have You Had an STD?": Here's one way to handle those obnoxious videobombers who just want to get on TV during live news reports.

@17: You are so incredibly dense. A universal value is still a value fought for by freedom fighters everywhere, even in oppressive nations.

@17 Surely you didn't think "universal" meant everyone, everywhere??? Of course we're only talking about squishy, polite, upper-middle-class NALT Xtians.

Phoebe: do you get stupider every day? Ask a Saudi citizen just how much the Kingdom values 'Religious Freedom'. And report back here, thanks.

Phoenix Coyotes sale is off. Greg Jamison doesn't have the money. Could be Seattle or Hamilton or Quebec.

The supposedly gay dog got adopted. And the shelter is overwhelmed with calls.

How is there an alleged Israeli attack? How can it not be confirmed whether or not Israel attacked Syria?

@9: Actually, religious freedom is a universal value; rape is not.

Dan Marino's wife was far too trusting; Miami was too remote to have an effective affair. But don't worry, he dealt with his NYC booty call soon enough.

I want Phoebe to write an excuse for the Brazilian pastor--maybe something about the importance of freedom of religion as a universal value, since it's outside the US.

Either that or something about the women as temptresses.

Regarding the tree poachers:

Cutting down a large tree, and then cutting out a core of the fattest part of the trunk sounds like a) you'd need to be skilled with a chainsaw, b) you'd need to be well-coordinated and careful, and c) you'd need to be able to drive and own a vehicle that could carry your haul.

None of that spells "druggie" to me. A druggie would sell the chainsaw and truck long before they came up with this scheme. Besides, unless they're finding a few fingers or toes laying around, there are no signs that anyone intoxicated was involved in this.

With the NSA eavesdropping programs and the compliance of ATT, Verizon, and pretty much every other communications company, I'm sure the US government has been hacking into the NY Times for years. But it's worse when a foreign government does it, I guess.

@2: Just because things might get worse doesn't negate a country's right to defend itself.

That's a great way to handle hecklers! If one is a stand-up comedian. I guarantee that woman just shortened her journalistic career.

What a great scam that pastor had going for him!

Oh come (in) all ye faithful!

Take, eat, this is my body

Israel always knows how to make things worse. This is exactly what Syrian dictator al-Assad wanted. Goddammit.
