Conservative Group Can't Find Anyone to Protest Wind Power

Posted by on Fri, Jan 25, 2013 at 1:16 PM

ThinkProgress says:

Needing 100 anti-wind protesters by next week and apparently unable to find them, a mysterious firm advertised a “quick and easy $20″ on Craigslist. According to the ad, the only thing the “volunteers” would need to do for their pay is “stand next to or behind the speakers and elected officials/celebrities” at a rally against a wind turbine project in the UK.

To be fair, the protest is in midtown Manhattan and the turbines are in the UK, so it stands to reason that not many people would care. But still. Astroturfing would be hilarious, if it weren't so damned effective.

The only mention of who sponsored the protest was a "mysterious firm".

When it comes to energy, it transcends politics because everyone basically serves their own interest.

For example, super lib Democrat donor Warren Buffet owns BNSF, which will run coal trains through Washington.

Oilman T. Boone Pickens made a huge investment in wind.

Hydrogen and fuel cells were championed by Schwarzenegger.

Biofuels that can be economic damaging but help agribusiness are supported by Obama.

And so on...

Go to Livingston Montana. Back in the early 1980's a company wanted to build a wind farm on the flats above the town (the northern entrance of Paradise Valley heading into Yellowstone Park is a huge wind tunnell). And the city council said no because of .....the pollution the wind farm would cause. No joke.

So I'm sure they could find some anti-wind protesters in that little town.

In the same vein, the Kennedy's blocked an off shore wind farm in Nantucket Bay for more than a decade because Uncle Teddy and company did not want the view from their mansions blocked. Only recently was the go ahead given...

Supreme Ruler dear, as usual, you're facts are only partially right. Teddy Kennedy did object, as did Robert Kennedy Jr., ostensibly on environmental grounds. Other people who objected did not share the Kennedy's concerns, nor did they share their politics.

"The most notable opponent of Cape Wind was the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, a champion of green energy who, to the dismay of environmentalists, fought against the wind farm. The Kennedy compound will have a view of the wind turbines.

Other opponents ranged from billionaire energy giant William Koch to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. American Indians in the region also objected, saying the wind farm would be located on sacred ancestral grounds and disturb important sunrise ceremonies.

"I am strongly opposed to the administration's misguided decision to move forward with Cape Wind," Sen. Scott Brown said Wednesday. "While I support the concept of wind power as an alternative source of energy, Nantucket Sound is a national treasure that should be protected from industrialization." "
