It Begins

Posted by on Tue, Jan 15, 2013 at 1:24 PM

This just in from the Washington State Liquor Control Board:

The Washington State Liquor Control Board will hold six evening public forums across Washington regarding the implementation of Initiative 502. The forums are an opportunity for interested citizens to meet WSLCB staff involved in implementation, be updated on implementation and to provide input to the Board for it to consider as it develops rules.

“Clearly there is passion about what Washington’s system of legal marijuana will look like when fully implemented,” said Board Chair Sharon Foster. “This is an opportunity for the public to meet the Board and staff involved in implementation, learn about our role in implementation, and to provide testimony. We appreciate the cooperation of the Association of Washington Cities for their help in arranging these forums.”

Full schedule of meetings and additional info here. As for Seattle, here's our date/place and the agenda for the meeting:

1/24: Seattle City Hall, Bertha Knight Landes Room, 600 Fourth Ave, Seattle, WA 98104

Agenda
6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Open house with Board and staff
7:00 – 7:05 p.m. Board welcome
7:05 – 7:15 p.m. Overview of Board’s role in implementation and timeline
7:15 – 10:00 p.m. Public testimony

i think truly qualifying medical users should be able to get state grown cannabis at a steeply reduced discount, or free depending on their condition. it would help out alot i think.

and i mean the truly sick, not the scammers. it would be nice to not see the sick and maimed exploited on the medical cannabis accessibility issue anymore. my near blind neighbor on his 11th eye operation should be getting free washington socialist state grown medical weed by now at this point in washington socialist state history. we could even be uber-washingtonian-progressive about the whole state cannabis issue. fuck ALEC and their fucking toilet paper.

@4: this aren't medical cannabis forums. they're about implementation of Initiative 502. please don't go there and take up the testimony time talking about a separate issue.

I'm so glad for such an important issue we get to have 6 forums shaped by comments from places such as Vancouver, Mt Vernon and Yakima...

Only one in all of King/Pierce County makes perfect sense...

@6: I assume they think that Mt. Vernon will cover Everett, Whidbey, the San Juans & up to the border, & Yaks will cover wine country to nuclear waste country. Vancouver has a pretty healthy population, and Portland folks will come, so that makes sense. But you're right, that seems way light for King Co. There should be a Bellevue forum at least, because 'burbs need a say.
Bainbridge, the Kitsap and the OP are getting the shaft.

look,

if the state is growing it then the truly sick people are gonna get it for free, i don't care what you say. 502 says the state is growing it, hence my comments above. the WLCB can team up with the Washington Health Department to get something done as an act of love and compassion for sick residents, its not impossible. i voted for and fully support I-502 btw.

It's B.S. that because I go to WSU I have to get all the way to Spokane to attend the public forum. Not to mention, there is no forum on the Olympic Peninsula where most of our state's pot is likely grown. FAIL. Hopefully they have more dispensaries than public forums.

@8: i have no idea what you're talking about. by all means, show up and go on and on because that's par for the course at every Seattle public forum.

i thought 502 instructs the WSLCB to devise production and distribution rules, not to produce cannabis or provide it for free to green card holders. can you link me to the sections that address your concerns?
