Bellevue is a scary place ...super-sized shopping malls & gargantuan office buildings, no street life, upscale gated communities, upscale uppity residents, hateful right-wing community "leaders", no parks, soul-numbing sterile atmosphere.

Stay away if you value your sanity. If you must go, please be careful!

#1 described "Kemper Freeman-ville" Its where Truman was raised.

Whats with the Thomas-Kincaide-Of-Glass (aka Chihuly) picture? The abandoned shopping cart is missing.

People aren't talking about diversity all day like Seattle where people think different outside appearance is diverity (sort of like a Benneton ad of the 80s), but there is some mixing of people from around the world in Bellevue. Most of them work at Microsoft and shop at the mall, but maybe we'll get some stores and restaurants and culture.

Really? Have you ever been to Bellevue, blackhook? We have tons of parks, modest working-class neighborhoods, public art, ethnic diversity, and 3 elected Democratic legislators. We are part of the majority-minority 9th Congressional District and are a majority-minority school district. Get a grip and get your facts right.

@2 Thomas-Kincade-of-Glass is the best description of Dave Chihuly I've ever read. It describes all that's wrong with him in a little nutshell.

@4, public art? Where are the offbeat art galleries? Where's the experimental theater? Where are the underground rock clubs? No El Corazon or Neumos type locations for music?

As @1 said, a lot of souless steel and glass office buildings that match the character of the residents.

Look Bellevue is in the burbs its where you live once you settled down, not a place when your are 20.

But nothing scary about it and plenty of Democrats there, real ones not like Tom.

@11 But you're more than happy to insist they be taxes to pay for your so-called 'experimental theatre', ie. failed theatre.

"Diversity is not the only thing that makes a city a nice place to be."

I'll pay you $50 to print that on a t-shirt and walk around Seattle for a week wearing it.

@17, Bellevue is just as white as Seattle, as a matter of fact whiter. The Asians blend in well with the white square Bellevue residents (honorary defacto white people). But more importantly, Seattle has more than 3 times the African American residents that Bellevue has, giving it for all intents and purposes, more cultural diversity.

@18 weren't they both from the CD? Might explain why Kemper doesn't want Sound Transit to build the train to Bellevue.

@24, I should have added that some of the Asians I've known in the Seattle area were some of the most racist people I've known as far as their views on African Americans, more so than some of the local white people. So you can say that even though they are non-white, many share a stronger identification with the views of the racist power structure including beliefs in stereotypes regarding African Americans.

@26 I'm married, own a house and have a 1-year old daughter. I was born and raised in the South King County suburbs and had a great childhood, but I'm totally psyched to raise her in the city.

I feel kind of sorry for the technicians who do Chihuly's work for him and have to do it in exactly his style. They must get really sick of it.

Holy shit guys, it's Bellevue. Pick your fucking battles.

(p.s. every condo that doesn't go up on the eastside goes up on the former site of the funhouse instead.)

a) Seattle isn't very diverse overall despite some very diverse neighborhoods and b) living in Seattle or Bellevue (or any other place) doesn't magically make you more or less cool, progressive, hip or diverse.

At least you can all join together in making fun of the rest of the state.

Bellevue has no parks? It has 77 parks, mostly pristine. Bellevue is no Seattle in many ways, but it has parks galore.

It's not so hard: Bellevue has no parks in its anti-human downtown - and it has exactly *zero* waterfront parks.
