Speaking of Unsubstantiated Rumors: NBA Kings to Seattle?

Posted by on Wed, Jan 9, 2013 at 11:48 AM

The rumors have been swirling since late last night that the long anticipated sale of the Sacramento Kings to Chris Hansen and his Seattle-based ownership group is all but a done deal. Yahoo Sports NBA columnist Adrian Wojnarowski has been tweeting details on an alleged deal all morning, but the Seattle Times' Bob Condotta has not been able to get anybody involved to confirm or deny the rumors.

So right now the news is that there's a rumor that there might be news.

According to Wojnarowski, the Kings would move to Key Arena for the 2013-2014 season, and play there for two seasons until the new Sodo arena is built. The selling price is reportedly $500 million, well above the $300 million market value Forbes estimated last year.

The Kings have been an obvious target ever since a Sacramento arena deal fell through last year, and while Hansen was always cagey when asked directly about the prospects, he certainly exuded confidence that he would successfully acquire a team. So I'd say this rumor has the air of truthiness to it. I guess we'll all know soon.

In other unsubstantiated rumors, I heard Pete Carroll hired a new kicker, plus a Chupacabra to fill in for Clemons at defensive end.

@21: I think that would more correctly be the Seattle Martin Luther Burger King Whoppers Jr.

I suppose the team will be called The Sonics again, but I would prefer they remain The Kings. Let's not pretend that The Sonics, their owners and the NBA didn't bail on us.

Good for Hansen. The sooner he constructs the arena, the sooner we'll get an NHL franchise-relocated (the Coyotes deal fails) or an expansion one:).

oooo...Since Seattle is the adopted American home I've never had, I might have a reason to watch/cheer for a NBA team!

And no, I have NOT heard of a team called the "Toronto" "Raptors"...sounds made up to me...

(j/k! I'll probably never want to watch basketball.)

That inflated selling price may have to do with the ease with which Hansen can move the team. "Priced to move!" has a different meaning here.

dark green and yellow, all the way!! Classic Sonics colors, please!

That neon-green trend of our other sports teams has GOT to go. So ugly.

Though when it comes to basketball the fucks I don't give could fill any new arena Hansen might care to build, I am happy for all the local fans.

Cool, I actually really like watching NBA games at key arena, the grimyness of the place is the best part. It feels like your watching a game in the 80's.

My only request is that Hanson pays all the expenses out of his pocket and doesn't tap into a single penny of Seattle's and King County's bonding capacity.

Other than that: BRING ON THE LOW PAYING STADIUM
VENDOR JOBS!!!!

My only request is that the new basketball team follow the same blue and green color scheme as the Seahawks and Sounders. Green and yellow is ugly.
