Politics Joe Biden, Gloriously, Was on a Hot Mic This Afternoon

As the vice president was swearing in Senator Heidi Heitkamp, he uttered the momentous phrase, "Spread your legs, you're gonna be frisked.” Buzzfeed has video. He also tried to soothe Republican Senator Ted Cruz's crying baby by saying "It’s a Democrat, I know, it’s okay." Wonkette has links to that video. It never occurred to me before today, but Leslie Nielsen would've made a great movie Biden.

This is why he will never be president. He's hilarious as the democrat's crazy uncle, but how can anyone take him seriously?

I watched it all unfold on C-SPAN. There is no better glad-hander in the nation. I want him elected president just to see him ride around in an up-armored, stretch Trans Am.

I thought it was pretty mild. The senator didn't seem to think it was funny though.

On running for president: Biden doesn't seem that old. Perhaps because of behavior like this.

In context it doesn't sound bad at all - he's referencing the photographer's instructions...it isn't like he's telling Senator Heitkamp to spread her legs. Why is this notable?

With Hillary Clinton having health problems, and most of the alternatives too unseasoned, a Biden presidency is actually becoming plausible. He'll be even older than Reagan and maybe just as senile, but great fun. Hopefully he chooses a young, healthy, progressive Democrat as his VP.
