A Flashback to the Last Mayor's Race

Posted by on Thu, Dec 13, 2012 at 10:52 AM

Now that folks are piling into the race to be Seattle's mayor, let's take a look at how candidates sold themselves a few years ago, starting with the guy who won. Mike McGinn promised to get things done by listening to people, working with everybody, and uniting a community:

Interesting. The job of political consultants, if nothing else, is making Kevlar armor to guard the Achilles heel of their candidate.

Development Corporations are people too.

Just ask the unfunded SR-99 Deeply Unpaid-for Tunnel that the Governator is going to try to finance as "maintenance".

Unless you work anywhere south of Atlantic street or wear coveralls. In that case, you can fuck off and move to Burien or Tacoma.

@5 all I can figure is he didn't want to fire the Chief.

Not to worry, this will all be forgotten after the next record snowfall.

@5, I trace its genesis to the search for a police chief. McGinn threw his weight behind Diaz when the Council was urging him not to. He hates the fucking Council, so Diaz became the "enemy of his enemy" best buddy. Diaz is now his fault and nobody else's, so McGinn will go to the mat for him.

re: SPD: They brought him into a room, told him about Bertha Landes, and said, "any questions?"

@9 well, yeah, but just cause the Chief has no balls, no sense blaming McGinn for that.

There is a shortage of perfect Hispanic Chiefs in this state.

We elected a fat, jolly dreamer bear and made him prove his bike-to-work b.s. every damn day. As each pound of happiness melted away, he slowly turned into a skinny bitch who would rather hang with the jocks at SPD than with geeks and freaks like us.

Sigh...

Oh, well, NEXT!
