Santa Claus, Hillary Clinton, and Other Democrats

Posted by on Mon, Dec 10, 2012 at 4:03 PM

1. For some reason, Public Policy Polling asked Americans if they believe Santa Claus is a Republican or Democrat:

A new poll by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling found that 44 percent of people in the United States believe that Santa Claus is a Democrat, versus just 28 who say St. Nick would cast his ballot for the GOP. An identical 28 percent say they're not sure of Santa's political affiliation.

Sixty-three percent of Americans believe that Mitt Romney would be on Santa's nice list, while only 51 percent of Americans would say the same thing about President Obama, which to me indicates that Democrats are much more forgiving than Republicans. In addition, 47 percent of Americans believe that there is a War on Christmas.

2. Yesterday, Newt Gingrich said the presidential race is Hillary Clinton's to lose.

I mean, if [the Republican nominee's] competitor in ’16 is going to be Hillary Clinton, supported by Bill Clinton, and presumably a still relatively popular President Barack Obama, trying to win that will be truly the Superbowl. And the Republican party today is incapable of competing at that level.

You'd better believe the Republican nominee. He's never wrong.

Santa gives away presents based on merit and not ability to pay, promotes a secularized interpretation of a traditionally Christian holiday, and favors red apparel and furry hats. He's clearly a socialist.

How fucking narcissistic to even begin to entertain the thought that a fictional representation of social bonding (gifting) could somehow align with the USAs excessively binary and painfully warped political affiliations. Fuck you "Public Policy Polling".

@1, Santa isn't secular, his image comes from pre-Christian, European pagan traditions - quite spiritual. The Roman Christians stole him from the Winter Solstice, aka "Yule," in order to Christianize an already existing holiday so that the new pagan subjects would have less reason to rebel. Also, he wore green instead of red sometimes as well.

@2 - Not to go down a rabbit hole on this, but American Santa image and lore is—beyond Norman Rockwell and Coca Cola—Sinterklass, or the very Roman Catholic Saint Nicholas.

Shouldn't it be "Hillary Clinton's to WIN"?

Reverse Polarity 5
Santa as a democrat is just as as silly as a 70+ year old President Hilary Clinton.

@5 - Women do live 5.3 years longer than men, so that'd be like electing a 65-year-old male president. But, yeah - that's still pretty old.

#4, the phrase "X's to lose" means that a victory is nearly assured, barring some ghastly misstep by the candidate. Theirs to lose should they so choose, not their opponent's to win.

Saint Ronnie was nearly 78 when they finally wheeled his alzheimer's riddled ass out of the White House. And I doubt Hillary would be anywhere near that brain-addled when she turns 78. I'd vote for her.

If Newt began predicting the sun rising, I would begin to doubt the morning, but it would probably be in his best interest to predict a few sunrises to even out his absolutely awful fortune telling record

If this were Holland, where Santa has a team of black slaves, he would defiantly be a Republican. Most are still angry their side lost the Civil War.

But in reality Santa would have to be a socialist as the workers own the means of production. Or a communist as he gives to each according to their needs.

To quote Arlo Guthrie:
You must think Santa Clause weird
He has long hair and a beard
Giving his presents for free
Why do police guys mess with peace guys?

Let's get Santa Clause 'cause;
Santa Clause has a red suit
He's a communist
And a beard, and long hair
Must be a pacifist
What's in the pipe that he's smoking?

@10: You mean from that LifeLine program started by Ronald Reagan, who was known to have been a bleeding heart liberal?

My god Bailo, do try to keep up. Your willful ignorance is showing.…
