Man Accused of Leaving Infant with Pitbull Babysitter

Posted by on Thu, Dec 6, 2012 at 7:57 AM

The good news is the baby lives! The bad news is its being raised with a man like this as a role model:

Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies said Irvine's girlfriend left him in charge of her child while she was away at work. After not answering several of her calls that evening, Irvine eventually picked up and said, "I'm watching the game," according to an arrest form.

The woman said she found Irvine trying to get into the house and that he was urinating on himself, according to the report.

He admitted to his girlfriend that he had been having a few drinks, but told her the baby wasn't alone because their pet pit bull was watching it, deputies said.

James R. Irvine now faces one charge of child neglect.

Curtsies to patrick.

In Little House on the Prairie Ma and Pa let their pit bull watch baby Carrie all the time. But now we have bloggers to tell us what's what.

Wait...there was no attack and The Stranger wrote about it? What is that I smell? Oh,'s progress.

P.S. This guy sounds like exactly the sort of loser who should not be allowed to own a dog...or have children

@1, Jack was a bulldog not a pitbull. And leaving your baby in a room with your dog is not the same as leaving your baby alone in a house with the dog while you go out to get drunk.

Pit bulls were once known as 'nanny dogs' but I don't think it was meant to apply in this situation.

What kind of mother leaves her child with a douche bag like that? Sounds like he's not even the childs father. Why isn't she up on charges also???

So you focus on the pit bull in the headline, but the actual story really has nothing to do with a pit bull, but rather a drunkard who left a baby alone, and a dog happened to be there as well.

Your headline is not only misleading, it is incorrect. He was charged with child neglect. Transparent, rabble-rousing clickbait. You can do better than this Cienna.

@6: a woman who has no choice because she has to go to work in a nation that cannot provide affordable childcare.

Infants should never be left alone with any dogs. The breed doesn't matter. This is like a headline saying "Drunk Mexican Crashes into Schoolbus."

#6 Because it's always the woman's fault, if a man, even of his own volition, does anything criminal.

Even if she's working for a living, constantly trying to check up on the boyfriend-babysitter, and leaves work to rush home to make sure her child is safe. And turns over to the authorities the bastard who left her baby alone.

The negligent bitch!

She should have consulted a psychic beforehand to foretell his drunken neglect! And through the power of her mighty vagina somehow prevented the asshole from leaving the baby alone, while she was in another location trying to earn a living to support that child.

Or that's what #6 seems to be saying.

If Jack had eaten baby Carrie's face he'd be close enough to a pit bull for Slog. It's only when the dog doesn't eat the baby that he gets called some slightly different breed name which everyone knows is the same fucking dog.

And what difference does it make what you're doing while the dog is alone with the baby? While the dog is deciding whether or not to eat the baby it doesn't know if you're getting drunk or using your axe to carve a cuckoo clock out of a log. The point is, the dog is babysitting. Jack, I mean. The Ingalls' pit bull.

I was appalled by this story, yet I have to admit that when my children were toddlers there's no story book they liked better (and I loved them, too) than the "Good Dog, Carl" series about a Rottweiler babysitter.

@4 Indeed they were know as "nanny dogs", mostly for their good temperament and patience in dealing with annoying, socialized, young humans.

The real point is that an infant shouldn't be left alone with someone/anyone who is unable to address an emergency by either calling 911 or being able to use their opposeable thumbs.

I'll grant that there are some dogs that are trained to call 911 and deal with a variety of situations.

In this case I think the issue is that a man left a baby alone in a closed room (the dog was outside of the door), went off to a bar, and when he returned to the house was so out of it that he not only was having problems getting into the house, he also pissed himself.

My pitbull charges $2.50 an hour for babysitting. Is that too much?

@12 - Either she knew the man (and this should not have surprised her) or she didn't (and should not have left her child with a stranger). I find it very hard to believe that this behavior on his part (and he should be held fully liable for it) is a fluke. Just saying that she that she too is irresponsible and someone needs to rescue that child from both of these horrible people.
