Shots Fired on the Ave

The UW's emergency alert system just sent out a message that read:

Mon Dec 3 2:11 p.m.
UW ALERT: SHOTS FIRED: Report of shots fired at the University Book Store, 4326 University Way NE, Veh fled from scene, Blk Audi

This was followed at 2:36 p.m. by:

UW Alert Update: Suspect vehicle and suspect located away from campus at east Lake Washington Blvd near Roanoke. This is an active police response. Stay out of area.

A third alert, at 3:00 p.m. read:

UW Alert: Suspect vehicle moving again 45th/Montlake Stay out area [sic]. Active, slow police pursuit near the campus. Listen for sirens and see lights stay out of area.

And a fourth, at 3:01:

UW Alert: Shooting suspect in custody at 17th Ave and NE 45th Street. Traffic being shut down at Memorial and 45th. Update to follow.

According to sources at the bookstore and this KOMO News report, the window of the clothing shop Crossroads, on the corner of 43rd and the Ave, was "shattered by gunfire," but no one was hurt. The circumstances of the shooting remain unclear.

I watched the "active, slow police pursuit" go north on Montlake, stop at the intersection of Montlake and 45th, which included several SPD units' worth of officers out of their cars, and then the black Audi make the left turn onto westbound 45th and head up the viaduct. The slow-motion chase then resumed, with at least a dozen SPD units in tow.

I wondered why they didn't pull a cruiser in front of the Audi when it was stopped at 45th and Montlake.

ScienceNerd @2:
They are eating up my text messages for the month. I tried to turn them off but keep getting them.

Right there with you. I had the alerts turned on when I used to work at the U, and now can't seem to get rid of them.

The circumstances may indeed be unclear, but it's abundantly clear that some combination of idiocy, sociopathy and narcissism were involved.
