Listen to the newest Stranger Genius of Literature discuss Marbles, Club van Gogh, the importance of page layouts, and the worst part about getting your prescription drugs at Costco, over at NPR.org.
To be fair, they haven't shouted things like "MS. FORNEY, YOUR LITHIUM IS READY" since HIPAA rules requiring privacy compliance went into effect ca. 2005.
Now it's hard to edge close enough to even catch the name of that person whom you know that you know, but don't want to get caught flat-footed saying "Hi, ummm..."
The other big downside is the people who unconsciously follow the same pharmacy/ATM 10-foot spacing policy at the supermarket checkout when you wanna put the gallon of milk, dripping meat package, frozen peas, and 5-pound potato bag on the goddamn conveyor belt already.
