Israel Strikes Gaza, Kills Hamas Official

Israel launched a new offensive named "Operation Pillar of Defense" today with about 20 air strikes on Gaza, the New York Times reports. The Hamas military commander Ahmad al-Jabari was killed in a strike as he traveled down the road in his car. The Israeli Defense Force warned in a tweet, "We recommend that no Hamas operatives, whether low level or senior leaders, show their faces above ground in the days ahead."

Since the strikes, Israel's missile defense program the "Iron Dome" has intercepted 13 missiles, according to the IDF. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas immediately called for an emergency meeting of the Arab League. The strikes come as the Palestinian bid for a UN statehood was gaining increased support among UN members.

Meanwhile, the top story on Google News? The Petraeus "scandal."

Yeah, nothing newsworthy about that Petraeus scandal.

Why would anyone be interested in the secrets of the ruling elite? Stuff is happening in Israel, sheeple!

Well they killed seven people, two of which where members of Hamas. The rest was counted as civilian casualties.

Shouldn't Israel be tweeting trying to get Hamas officials to be out in the open. Like "No military operations going on today. It's the perfect time for @HamasLeadership to take a roadtrip! #R&R"

They've been talking about this strike for the last week. Hopefully people were able to get somewhere safe.
On another note, everytime I see the name Jabari, it makes me think of Jabari Blash, a player in the Mariners' farm. I hope he makes it to the big leagues. That name is too awesome to waste in the minors.

Just stop reporting on Israel and Palestine and they'll solve their own problems.
