Morning News: Happy Monday

Posted by on Mon, Nov 12, 2012 at 7:57 AM

Happy Monday: Last week's election results weren't a dream. Stop pinching yourself! (But keep reading things with headlines like this: "California Republicans Teetering on Irrelevance," because it's fun.)

Happy Monday: It's Veterans Day (observed). Thank someone. Take advantage of free parking. Don't go to the post office.

Just Awful: Brendan reports this morning that local comedian and People's Republic of Koffee owner Tristan Devin has died.

David Petraeus: Details of his career-crushing affair are slowly leaking.

European Crisis Continues: Eurozone finance ministers debating new funds for Greece. Meanwhile, hundreds of families face eviction each day in Spain.

Unexplained Explosion in Indianapolis Neighborhood: Five homes destroyed, 200 people evacuated, seven people injured, two presumed dead, no answers yet.

Tony Burnett, 49, was lying in bed watching the Notre Dame football game a little after 11 p.m. when the explosion shook his home, knocked down doors and blew out windows.
He said he ran outside and saw that the house across the street, 8349 Fieldfare, was gone. Houses on either side were in flames.
Debris fell like snow.

Fake Cops: Rob Marysville couple, according to the real cops. "The men knocked on the door of the home Sunday morning and identified themselves as police officers. They wore clothing and equipment that led the couple to believe they were law enforcement officers."

Oh, Man: Billionaire who died with his family in a helicopter crash in 2010 "allowed his 5-year-old daughter to sit on his lap in the co-pilot's seat where she apparently kicked the flight controls and caused the accident, according to federal investigators."

Have Republicans blamed Obama for Petraeus's affairs or blamed him for covering it all up yet?

A billionaire lets a five year old too close to the controls and crashes and burns. No, I'm talking about Sheldon Adelson and Carl Rove.

In other delicious schadenfreude, David Frum had this to say:
The conservative followership has been fleeced, exploited, and lied to by a conservative entertainment complex.

@1,
They (republicans) are still too busy saying Petraeus' resignation was a conspiracy to cover up Benghazi.

@ 7, Benghazi as a scandal is just the most bizarre right wing conspiracy theory. I mean, I'm sure some of these people also believe in the Elders of Zion, but they seem to be glad to work for them since they decided it was biblical prophecy. But it's just so much harder to understand where this one comes from, compared to the birth certificate.

Sure, it's a shame hundreds of Spaniards are being evicted and made homeless, but the real gut-wrenching question is whether banks will continue to get enough bail-outs to maintain that shadow inventory of two million units and keep rents and housing prices as high as possible. You know. Like over here.

There once was a cleric in Yemen.

An Islamic cleric, he preached against suicide bombers, stating it was against the Qur'an.

The cleric was vaporized by a Hellfire missile from an American drone.

Was his death from so-called "collateral damage" -- or was his death rendered purposely?

Doubtful we'll ever know, but does it really matter?

People wonder why they seldom hear of protests against the necrophiles, the lovers of death?

Whether the lovers of death are in Arab lands --- or in America --- good people have died and continue to die.

There once was a cleric in Yemen.

@8, Matt the simpleton with the binary brain who is only capable of of "either-or, only two choices to everything" mindless thought patterns.

OK, moron here's the reality, douchebagger:

Benghazi CIA Station has been running components of al Qaeda for whatever reasons (no, they are not a monolithic outfit, as the Turkish military intelligence learned back in 2002 after interrogating a few of their captured al Qaeda guys), and Petraeus was scheduled to testify before congress this week, and might have testified honestly --- no worries with deputy director, now acting director, Morrell --- he was CIA aide to the Bush White House during 9/11 --- he'll dutifully lie for anyone.

The lady who is supposed to be behind those emails has a US intel background, plus reserve military status (I believe, the last time I checked, quite some time back). Of course, Robert Mueller III, the FBI director, wouldn't bother to abide by his mandated responsibility of notifying the President of the United States of America upon learning of the background regarding Petraeus' troubling marital infidelities, etc.

(The same Robert Mueller III, first appointed by George H.W. Bush to be chief of the DOJ's criminal division when the investigation into the BCCI affair was getting waaaay too close to the Bush #1 White House. The same Robert Mueller III who is the grandnewphew of Richard Bissell, one of the three top CIA guys fired by President Kennedy prior to his assassination. The same Robert Mueller III who is married to the granddaughter of Gen. Cabell, the second of the three top CIA guys fired by President Kennedy prior to his assassination. The same Robert Mueller III who is quietly being groomed --- note the number of books published recently extolling his "character" --- to be 2016 "non-partisan" Republican presidential candidate.)

Petraeus' s affair might have breached national security. I'm sure we'll find out more in time. I don't really care if he fooled around. Most people don't care. That's between him and his wife. But you have to be aware of the possibility of someone going psycho on you which - as I understand it - happened when his biographer thought some other woman was interested and was sending Petraeus scary emails.

Too bad. He was very well-respected in many quarters. Always sad when one little thing can bring you down like this. Hell, I've been guilty of a lot stuff at least this serious.

Wouldn't mind reading some of those hot emails that supposedly exist. Yeah, I'm ashamed.
