The Approve R-74 Campaign Has a Phenomenal Ground Game

Dom,

I have worked on a few campaigns and teach a course on it as well at SU. I am only saying that to say how impressed I am that R-74 came to my house THREE TIMES this weekend to tell my wife (who is a new registrant in a high Dem performing precinct) to mail in her damn ballot. All volunteers and all on message to VOTE and were not happy to hear that we still had not dropped it in the mailbox.

I cannot remember the last time I saw an initiative have their shit together this well on field. BTW, I mailed our liberal laden ballots this AM.

Marco

Right on! You can still help them out—info about GOTV work is here.

Hmmm, 3x to one house in Seattle, vs. how many to places like Yakima, Spokane, Vancouver?

Here at my home in Massachusetts, I have been visited by three canvassers for Elizabeth Warren reminding me to vote.

Here in Seattle by magnuson park, I have been visited or called by no one. Plenty of condos out this way that would make for relatively high-density gotv efforts...

No canvassers, no robocalls, no television for advertisement bombardment.
Different from last year, when we had two canvassers for local races.
Our household has voted, and I expect all but two initiatives to go our way.

@3: Sanotehu: That could acutally a good thing. It's an effective targeted system. They know a lot about you already, including if you've already voted (it's public info). So let's hope they aren't reaching out to people who don't need to be reached out to.

Gotta say, if there were an issue of candidate that I was lukewarm to and they knocked on my door three times, that would probably push me to the other side. There's a fine line between organized and pestering.

I can say for certain that the canvass lists are specific only to folks who haven't voted yet. If you've voted already, they're leaving you alone. It's a pretty awesome way to maximize resources so we *can* go pester folks who *haven't* voted yet.

@3 there can be access issues with condos which may in some situations not make them worthwhile canvass destinations

I met a canvasser for the Approve R-74 campaign on the bus to Lynnwood last week. She looked exhausted, but still enthusiastic about the cause. She said the focus is almost totally on GOTV now.

I'm kicking myself for not asking for her number, though. She was cute.

Oh, is that who came to the door on Saturday to remind Mrs. Hernandez to vote? Okay, I was kind of wondering about that. We were barely awake at the time so it came as a bit of a shock, but we appreciated the effort nonetheless.

Shit has really gotten organized since Ref. 71, then. I remember showing up to ERW's office by the freeway and it being pretty chaotic. I didn't do my share this time around. :(

@6 if that's how you make your decisions, you fucking idiot, please don't vote -- or reproduce!
