Watch Mitt Romney Ignore Eleven Separate FEMA Questions

Posted by on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 12:05 AM

I told you about this before, but the video is pretty striking. Romney's phony grin looks like it's about to crack on a couple different occasions, but he keeps it up for the duration, like the brave little question-dodging soldier he is. What a hero! The relevant part starts forty seconds in:

Well, as you can see from the Global Warming created Sandy, all Mitt knows how to do is make things worse.

Just ask the 10,000 UBS Swiss workers he caused to lose their jobs.

Or his tax deductible "Trust" that reduces his taxes to $0 most years, but never gives money to the Mormon Church even though he pretends it is tithing.

So do we know who the reporter is that keeps asking these questions? The YouTube channel seems like a personal account.

He said during the primaries that he would get rid of FEMA and send all of its responsibilities to the states and then to the private sector.

Since he won't answer questions about FEMA now, we should assume that he stands by his "FEMA is evil" primary comments.

How ironic that his primary comments are coming back to haunt him just days before the Election.

I'm not a fan of Romney, but this video seems unfair. I didn't hear any other "reporters" asking questions and getting them answered - it sounds like these people chose the wrong time to ask their questions and then used the video to make it look like he was ignoring them.

@4: He is ignoring all questions. I don't see how that makes it better. He's asking people to vote for him as president of the United States and his strategy is to give as little information about himself, his beliefs and his policies as possible. The FEMA stuff just happens to be particularly relevant right now.

If elected this robot smirking clown will want to privatize all government functions. Every last one. Why? So that you'll have to pay a company to rescue you off the top of your roof during a flood or have a private fire fighting company extinguish a house fire. If you dial 911 the first thing the robot voice will ask is what your credit card number is so they can charge you to come save you from being robbed or murdered. He wants us non-significant little people to pay for everything --- and then still pay federal, state, city and county taxes on top of it. But if that's what Americans want, a non-effective central government, that's what they'll get with a Bain Capital administration.

And the media is still trying to play this election out like it's "just too close to call". Mittens was going to lose a week ago and now he's probably going to really get his ass beat by Obama next week.

@2, 4

Does it really matter who the reporter is? Does it really even matter whether the "reporter" is genuinely a reporter, or is just some interested citizen with a videocamera? I think the answer to both questions is a definite no. Romney is on the record as wanting to get rid of FEMA. The questions were being asked on the day of a national disaster, and were being asked as Romney was collecting and distributing canned goods as a response. I can't imagine a more appropriate time or place for anyone--journalist or private citizen--to ask him about his position on FEMA. It's relevant to his campain. It's timely. It's an issue he has brought up before. He should answer the friggin questions already.

@8 "Romney was collecting and distributing canned goods as a response."

There has been no reporting that indicates these canned goods were distributed.

It has been widely reported that the Red Cross does not want to divert resources towards handling these ramshackle piles of goods.

I would love to see some reporting tracking these collected goods, even if it turns out that the Romney campaign manages to do an amazing job in disaster relief logistics.

@9: You have officially made yourself irrelevant in all future discussions. Congratulations, you are now even less useful than Will in Seattle. At least he attempts to add something useful to discussions.

FEMA Director Fugate is one of those rare, super-professional civil services types America used to have many of, prior to the entire corruption process having been put in place starting back around 1980.

@14 I'll admit that I usually stop reading your posts about a paragraph and a half in, largely due to your writing style and content, so please factor that in any answer you might give, but I am curious about the implications of this post...

"FEMA Director Fugate is one of those rare, super-professional civil services types America used to have many of, prior to the entire corruption process having been put in place starting back around 1980."

There seems to be several highly visible and highly incompetent Political Appointees at high levels, but what evidence do you have for your claim that super-professional civil service types are rare or even less common than in the good old days?

I wonder if you haven't been reeled in by the Reagan method of breaking government and then decrying the brokenness of government.

@13,

When has that astroturfing motherfucker ever been relevant?

@4,

When else are they supposed to ask him any questions? Romney won't speak to the press right now and won't until after the election because he doesn't want to have to answer even one uncomfortable question. Ambushing him is their only option. But, hey, at least a campaign staffer didn't tell the reporter to kiss his ass.
