President Obama and Governor Christie Praise Sandy First Responders

Posted by on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 2:32 PM

Huffington Post says:

After both men doles out hugs and handshakes at the shelter, Christie said it's "really important to have the president of the United States" in New Jersey. To the chagrin of some Republicans, Christie has lavished praise on Obama for his efforts in helping states deal with the storm.

Obama was equally effusive about Christie, telling residents that "your governor is working overtime" to repair the damage from the storm.

I already said it this morning, but it's kind of shocking that when two politicians from opposing parties praise each other, the media jumps on it like it's the biggest breaking news of the day.

First a Frankenstorm, then Democrats and Republicans praising each other? What's next, dogs and cats living together?

And the race for 2016 starts a week early (not that Christie hasn't been positioning for months, but embracing the expected winner of the election so strongly enhances his 'bipartisan' cred).

I think Christie knows who he has to deal with for the next four years. And it isn't Rmoney.

People keep hyping the 'Christie is playing smart politics' angle on this. Is it genuinely possible that he feels for New Jersey and has slept zero hours since Sunday? I'd love to have someone repping my state that hard and actually looking like they gave a real shit about the folks around them.

For Christie to have any chance in 2016, the NJ recovery has to be strong. Mittsy is clearly not the choice for a strong recovery.

@5. Word. As much of a heartless douche Christie is when the impacts of that heartlessness are... More abstract, let's say, I think this is genuine sense of responsibility, humility, and basic human need. Everybody in Jersey needs everybody else to do the best they can. I don't like his politics, and probably still won't, but I believe the dude is genuinely down for his people right now, and genuinely appreciative of what the President, EMTs, firefighters, random people with boats or generators or whatever else are doing for his state.

Fuck cynicism. Now more than ever.

It IS breaking news when people come together like this. This is clearly evidenced by the response to Chris Christie on Fox News, praising Obama. The Fox personality attempts to take positive attention off Obama, by bringing up Christie's relationship with Romney and asking about Romney's oh-so-relevant storm response. LOVE Christie's response, dude got shut down: http://news.softpedia.com/news/New-Jerse…

Really? It's SHOCKING that this is breaking news? We're days from an election and this will no doubt affect public opinion and hence the election. Politics have been more polarized than ever and Chris Christie is no exception as he ran in the Republican Presidential primaries and criticized the shit out of Obama. Now Christie is praising him days before. If you're paying attention you probably shouldn't be shocked that this is big news.

Who is the old guy, who seems to be so happy? It seems like he is about to break out in laughter. He seems to be out of place, he is not at Disney World!!!
