Teh Internets Hurricane Sandy: Too Soon

From a friend of mine on Facebook, in regards to Facebook:
Hey idiots/empathy-deficient facebook zombie-people: there is such a thing as "too soon" and just plain "garbage-person behavior". If you are currently in a safe/non-disaster-zone city making "ironic" humorous posts about New York and the other eastern seaboard cities being affected by the storm RIGHT NOW, you are a complete asshole. Period. People are dying, losing their homes, livelihoods, pets, etc. In your eternal fervor to prove that you're the quickest mean-girl in the schoolyard, you show just how low & meaningless this social networking "culture" of "friends" really is.
Ouch. And I agree completely.

On the other hand, there are people in the storm who aren't taking it seriously. See: guy in the horse mask. So if they're not upset about it, why should I be?

I agree, but did laugh at some guy who tweeted: "Man, every time I wash my car..." so send me to hell.

I'm questioning why the military hasn't been deployed.
Especially when they have battlefield generators that could be providing emergency power on the streets at least for cell phones and other communications.

Anybody who posts "I'm praying for the residents" or "stay safe" or suchlike should have $59.95 automatically deducted from their checking account. Fake shoulder-sleeve empathy, like pink accessories at NFL games.... ugh.

You wouldn't have this problem if you were only connected to people on Facebook that you actually like, who actually share your sick tastes, or lack thereof. Rather than being so desperate for affirmation that you have 5,000 FB friends who mostly say shit that pisses you off.

Most of the "ironic" humorous posts I see on FB and Twitter are coming from my friends who actually live in New York City.

@14- I think the suggestion was to power the cell towers, not to set up a charging station every 100 feet.
Also, it seems like it'd be easy enough to install some sort of emergency shut down for cell phones, where voice and data are blocked outright and the much more capacity-efficient text messages could go into a queue and be sent/received in bursts, as power comes available.

Mobile, self powered cell "towers" or stations have been used in past disasters to keep communication going and will no doubt be used in this one as well. They're really pretty cool.

I tend to agree with the point, if not the tone of outrage that suggests the author goes out of his or her way to get self righteous and angry about things as a matter of routine.
