Good Job, Whatshertits (Susan Robb)

Posted by on Wed, Oct 24, 2012 at 4:15 PM

This post is part of a series.

I AM A LAND ANIMAL To make this series of images, Susan Robb used an airplane window seat as her studio. Her new show at Cornish will be performed via Skype with other artists. Shell make things, and theyll make things, together.

At six o'clock tonight, Susan Robb will make a Skype call. She won't be at home when she Skypes, she'll be in the main gallery at Cornish College of the Arts, which will stand in for her studio as well as her exhibition place.

This first call will go to Chauney Peck. Peck is an artist who lives in LA (yup, you remember right, she used to live in Seattle). The two of them are going to Skype-make an artwork. I don't know whether this means they'll both make the same thing, or two different things but following each other's instructions, or whether neither of them will really make anything besides the performance of trying to make a thing. I don't really know whether it will work. But at six forty-five, the next Skype call begins. And obviously, each one will be different. This second one is with Whiting Tennis, who'll just be across Seattle at his home studio. At seven-thirty, Reed Anderson in New York will pop onto Robb's screen.

Here's the whole schedule of performances for Robb's SKYPE SKULPT STUDIO, which runs through December 15. The lineup of Robb's collaborators includes Lead Pencil Studio, and Marc Dombrosky and Shannon Eakins. If you go, Robb is asking that you consider bringing her some materials—something crafty, or anything you just want to get rid of.

I LOVE Robb's from-the-air doubled landscapes. And this Skype thing sounds awesome.
