Bill Clinton Says President Obama Will Basically Be Bill Clinton 2.0

Posted by on Wed, Oct 24, 2012 at 11:53 AM

Since the last debate, the Obama campaign has been producing optimistic ads that appeal directly to the viewer. Closing out with positivity is a smart move. The newest of these ads stars Bill Clinton, and it's a good one:

I think these ads are effective, and Clinton has been the best surrogate the Obama campaign has had. But they do come with a price: If Obama wins this election, Bill Clinton is going to want a much larger role in the second term. If he doesn't get that role, things are going to get ugly.

Say, didn't William Jefferson Blythe III.....Bill Clinton...as Governor of Arkansas do everything in his power to forestall, under-fund, and interfere with any attempts to investigate allegations of CIA drug running at the Mena airport?

Didn't Bill Clinton admit he attended the 1991 Bilderberg Meeting shortly before he became president?

As the president, didn't Bill Clinton help pass all those trade agreements like NAFTA, GATT, and open trade with China that resulted in the massive off shoring US jobs?

Wasn't it the Clinton administration that revoked Glass-Steagall thus paving the way for the banksters to create 1.5 quadrillion in derivative crap?

And nobody died when Clinton lied...except in Somalia, Iraq (through sanctions) and Yugoslavia.

Didn't Bill Clinton, through his foundation, donate to post- earthquake Haiti a bunch of mold plagued, shoddy hurricane shelters built by the same company that is being sued for providing formeldahyde-laced trailers to displaced residents after Hurricane Katrina?

Do you have any evidence for the assertion that Bill is going to want a job/"greater role" with Obama's administration?

He has essentially steered clear of any such position since he left office, and is involved in a lot of charitable/common good organizations which he seems to enjoy greatly.

The idea of Obama's Faustian bargain with Slick Willy seems a bit of a stretch.

Wow, the tinfoil hat brigade is still trotting out the Bilderberg Group?

Is the "Illuminati" getting too stale, or are you going for a retro feel? Too tired of the Tri-Lateral Commission? Are not enough people still remembering the Bohemian Grove nonsense?

#1, you guys are a riot.

@1: you realize you're talking about the most, no wait, the only popular Democratic president of the last half century, right?

@2: yup. It's just comment bait.

I'm all for Prez Clinton helping out. In fact, I would hope that previous presidents are always consulted. They have experience in the job, even if they didn't do a great job of it, and hindsight is often 20/20. It's stupid not to use the resources of those who came before.

This is a beautiful framing device, and it should have been trotted out sooner. Do you want a replay of Clinton or do you want a replay of Bush? Do you want the America of the 90's or the America of the 00's?

The only thing I can see Bill Clinton wanting is for Obama to clear the field and/or offer structural support for Hillary in 2016, if she decides to run.

The thing about second terms is, if he wins, he's not beholden to anybody. He can tell Bill to take a long walk off a short pier if he wants to. I don't think the Clintons have any leverage at all, and if they do, it's one with the administration job, not the ex-prez.

I'd rather he not become Clinton 2.0. Welfare reform, NAFTA and banking deregulation were plenty the first time around, thanks.

I just hope it doesn't mean Obama's getting his knob polished or Driving While Black or sneaking cigarettes or any such low-level shenanigans so as to lead to yet another specious politically motivated impeachment.

I think Clinton does this to protect his own legacy, since Obama is already effectively a third Clinton term with an unfortunate 8-year interregnum.

It also helps Hillary Clinton if she wants to run in 2016, because any good feelings produced by Bill Clinton will be to her benefit regardless of whether Obama wins. (If Obama loses, then people will look to the Clintons as the legacy of the last Democrats to win two terms. If he wins, people associate that victory with the Clintons.)

He'd be a good Secretary of State, freeing up Hillary to begin her 2016 campaign.

What could Obama do beyond destroying Glass Stegal that could make him Clinton 2.0?

Besides, I though we wanted something better than the bubble driven economies of the past couple of decades? Or are we just going to be happy with what we've been going through?

Talk about some lowered expectations.

@18, I want a younger woman (or man). Sorry. Secretary Clinton has had a long and honorable career but she is closer to the end of it than the beginning. She would be at least the second-oldest Justice ever appointed, and more likely the oldest by the time a vacancy comes up (not counting Charles Evans Hughes, who was 67 the second time he was named to the Court, but only 48 the first).

A nice, smart 35-year-old liberal from someplace other than Harvard Law would be nice. Someone who will serve for fifty years. And maybe a Protestant -- isn't it weird that in this hyper-Christian nation, where right-wing evangelicals run almost every aspect of political life, there are ZERO Protestants on the Supreme Court? Six Catholics, three Jews. Gimme a Vietnamese-American Presbyterian or Episcopalian from Stanford or Cal-Berkeley, maybe. There's got to be one somewhere, right?

@1 Oh fer fucks sake.

How many times does Clinton's involvement in that Mena bullshit have to be debunked before you mouth breather conspiracy nuts will drop it. It's a total fabrication by American Spectator and the "witness", a nutbag State trooper named L.D. Brown who provided ZERO evidence at all and turns out was BRIBED to fake the story.

Oh. That's right. Never. Because facts won't matter.

@20: These links are not for you. They're for anyone else here who has the fortitude to contemplate that high level officials within government and banking just might have a vested interest in the $700 billion dollars the drug trade generates annually. (Who are we kidding, right? This is the Stranger, Valhalla for mush headed establishment neo-libs).

@21:

Will you next post under the username folds, bends, or mutilates?

Better just to go straight to wackjob, though of course you've already demonstrated that sobriquet under your current name.
