Giggles aside, I noticed that Obama got right down into a crouch to meet audience members, whereas Romney was trying to stoop as little as possible. Either he had a subconscious aversion to interacting directly with the hoi polloi, or some kind of lower back pain/arthritic knees thing going on. Ann was maybe trying to keep him from toppling forward.
Also, I'm not one for empty symbolism (especially including flag lapel pins), but it's interesting that last night Obama was sporting a pink rubber bracelet on his right wrist for breast-cancer awareness month, whereas Romney, whose wife has actually had breast cancer and who wants to kill Planned Parenthood and its well-woman screenings as well as the Affordable Care Act, was not.
I think a whole lot more should have been said about that.
ummm, i'm going to have to be a wet blanket and protest. i think this is rather mean spirited and unprofessional to encourage mocking an unfortunately captured moment which should never have been published. i think we sacrifice some of our credibility as the reasonable half of the population and as empathetic human beings (which we accuse the right wing of being incapbable of,) when we use these opportunities to bully. (yes, i used the word bully).
i enjoy when dan mocks people who are making ridiculous comments and politicians who make ridiculous claims. i enjoy dan almost all the time. but this situation is not one of those.
can someone back me up on this? or is everyone going to flame me as a spoilsport?
@dccc. If I felt this was mean spirited, I'd agree with you. But honestly, I can totally see my friends and I doing this on fb if a picture like this was taken featuring some of us, and not a prominent political couple. And all of us involved would find it funny, with little embarrassment, if any. Most of these captions are not mean spirited or personally insulting, unless someone has a real sexual hangup. I don't disagree with your idea that we should treat politicians with whom we disagree decently, but I don't agree that this particular bit of fun is horribly mean.
@7, yeah, if this was going to go on and on and on and on, go viral, I'd agree with you. But it's a minor little blip, already forgotten by the next day.
