One of the best things to come from this election is the fact that so many voters have learned to hate Paul Ryan. Ryan's big debut on the national stage—sorry, but being a prominent member of the House doesn't count—hasn't been a Sarah Palin-style debacle, but he's branded himself very badly. Lots of voters now think Ryan is a snotty, mean-spirited, know-it-all with a serious lying problem. He's seen as particularly bad on women's issues. And his statements yesterday at a fundraiser certainly aren't going to help:

“Now it’s a war on women; tomorrow it’s going to be a war on left-handed Irishmen or something like that,” Ryan told donors at a Naples fundraiser, according to Shushanna Walshe of ABC News.

He just equated women's rights with a niche group for a cheap laugh. This is the kind of callous dismissiveness that can only come from privilege. You just know Ryan has wondered aloud why there isn't a white history month, or why homosexuals are always shoving their gayness in people's faces, or complained about political correctness. This is an irresponsible statement for a vice-presidential candidate to be making.
