Shameless Ryan

Posted by on Tue, Oct 16, 2012 at 8:38 AM

WaPo:

The head of a northeast Ohio charity says that the Romney campaign last week “ramrodded their way” into the group’s Youngstown soup kitchen so that GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan could get his picture taken washing dishes in the dining hall.
Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, said that he was not contacted by the Romney campaign ahead of the Saturday morning visit by Ryan, who stopped by the soup kitchen after a town hall at Youngstown State University.
“We’re a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations,” Antal said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. “It’s strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there, and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors.”
He added: “The photo-op they did wasn’t even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.”
Ryan washed dishes for 15 minutes and left. He just went in there, disrupted work being done for the poor, and took an image for nothing but his own political gain, an image that helps no one but himself. It simply amazes me that so many Americans will still vote for this character, a man who makes almost no effort to hide his moral corruption, moral emptiness.

He didn't disrupt the poor. How could he, there weren't any there as the place was closed.

And according to other news reports, the dishes he "washed" had already been washed. He was washing clean dishes for the camera.

Because they're not voting for Romney/Ryan, they're voting against Obama.

@7 - Then the dishes had to be rewashed(3rd time) and the kitchen cleaned(2nd time) because the Ryans violated health codes with their stunt.

One visit by Ryan -- staged or live -- will bring in countless donations to those homeless vagrants.

Sad that Democrats would take the food from their mouths for political gains!

@8 - your comments are a lot funnier when I read them in the Dowager countess' voice.

That said, if Obama pulled a bush-league stunt like this, it'd be the only thing the 'librul media' would be able to talk about up to and after the election.

@11 I am SO reading all of GDfR's comments in the Dowager Countess' voice. I suspect my acid reflux problem is about to subside.

@1,

Mudede said "disrupted work being done for the poor", which still isn't entirely accurate. What Ryan did was ask a bunch of *real* volunteers to stay late so he could pretend to volunteer at that soup kitchen.

@8- So basically Romney/Ryan supporters don't know about the existence of a charity unless a politician shows it to them? And somehow charity is supposed to work as a social safety net?

@8, Romney/Ryan were funneling donations from a shelter to their campaign. Thanks for playing.

Did the campaign even make a donation? Did they offer any real help in addition to the fake help?
