Today in Campaign Videos: The Racist Teabagger Video, John Glenn, Jay-Z, and More

Posted by on Mon, Oct 15, 2012 at 5:15 PM

You can tell we're in the home stretch before Election Day because the videos are flying hot and heavy. This teabagger super PAC ad airing right now in Ohio is pretty much the best case against super PACs I've ever seen. It's basically an attempt to scare white people into voting for Romney so the lazy black people don't take over:

Compare that to this pro-Obama ad with a testimonial by John Glenn that's currently on the air in Ohio:

I can't wait to see what Teabagger PAC does with this Obama get-out-the-vote ad starring Jay-Z:

And the new Mitt Romney Debates Himself video is out and ready for your Facebook forwarding:

@1 Make a video parody and put "one crazy democrat on the streets vs all the ELECTED OFFICIAL TEA PARTY CRAZY"

followed by an onslaught of "Miracle anti-rape pheromones, "someone women rape easy", embryology is lies straight from the pit of Hell"

Times like these, living in a swing state, I find that I'm really happy to never watch traditionally broadcast TV. Thanks internet. (Three weeks until the election...)

I can't wait for GDfR to get here and explain how the first video is not obvious race-baiting by a political organization largely home to bigots.

"Lazy black people" - I'm thinking the only racist here is Constant.

That woman is not ignorant because she's black, she's ignorant because she's trapped in a cycle of poverty and dependency. She probably lives in an area with shitty public schools, shitty public housing, shitty public services, and high taxes to try and pay for it all. Which forces anybody who can get out, to do so. Leaving the rest in the shit. See Detroit as a prime example of the failure of Democratic policy.

That video is so repugnantly racist, I barely have the words. I hope it works against them as much as it works for them, or more.

I like the "Romney Debates Himself" video.

Actually, does the word "video" even mean anything anymore?

The first video is really sad and really racist. Let's say I agree that the program to put cell phones into the hands of people who don't earn enough money for food is a giant waste of money. There's not a chance in hell I'd support almost any of Romney's other policies. I'd much rather be concerned about building tanks no one wants or how much money the pentagon wastes per second. I'll just come right out and say it, the people who would support that ad are either racist, in need of math help or heartless to believe we should focus any attention on aid programs when it barely amounts for any of the discretionary spending. If it's about principals the people who believe in this nonsense are going to have to do much better explaining it, because right now it looks like you're just taking a giant shit on the poor for reasons of you thinking they're getting ahead in life with free government handouts. Yeah, with all those free government cell phones she'll be working for McDonald in no time. Taking our fucking jobs. >.<

P.S. If an item in this world is pretty much required for you to get a job I see no problem with the government helping people out till they raise high enough in the ladder to pay for it themselves. You don't have to believe what I believe, but no amount of racist propaganda will ever make me think otherwise. Yes ungrateful bla people are totally going to get government handouts when they can (questionably by the look of the video) make it for themselves, but I wouldn't for one second take the service away for the people who truly need it because some people might be dicks. Yeah, let's stop doing things cause people might be greedy dicks. I'm waiting for you to never do anything in your life ever again.

@5,
Shitty public services because republicans keep cutting their funding to give tax breaks to white billionaires to fund private schools and private properties so that white billionaires don't have to send their precious white snowflake children to schools with poor black kids.

See the entire world for a prime example of the failure of republican policies.

@5, if you don't think the tea party put a poor black woman in that ad purposely to play up racial sterotypes, you're ignorant.

Interesting to note that the PAC that put out the first ad is run by Ken Blackwell, an African-American ex-mayor of Cincinnati and a current employee of the Family Research Council. His wife is the superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools.

I hope you remember your own words the next time you are driving along a substandard road. If you want a better one, go fucking earn it.

How about the next time you need help from the police? If you want a better police force, go fucking earn it.

How about the next time your house is on fire, and you don't think the fire department is coming in a timely manner. If you want a good fire department, go fucking earn it.

How about an educated applicant pool the next time you're hiring (since I assume you're a "job creator"). Go fucking earn that, too.

FYI the police also protect us from mobile phone thieves on the streets, so they are good for all.

Doesn't anyone here understand that a lot of people see that cell phone as a quid pro quo to secure her vote paid for with tax payer dollars? (And, apparently, a very successful one.)

@15,
What's with your anger?

You can't be happy unless people who, in your opinion, haven't worked as hard as you have, are forced to grovel at your feet and admit that you're superior to them?

You're going to end up having a heart attack if you don't give up all that anger. Calm down.

The phone program is actually from Reagan's time in office. They changed from landlines to cellphones because that makes a hell of a lot more sense.

The phone program is brilliant because if you don't have a phone number, how is someone going to call you to tell you you've got a job? How much money are you supposed to dump into a payphone calling around looking for work? How are you supposed to arrange housing without a phone?

It's a very cost effective program.

The phone program that the woman in the first video describes is called Lifeline. It's a Federal program managed by the FCC that provides discounted phone service to people who are eligible based on their income (at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines) or by their participation in programs that assist the poor (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medicaid, the federal school lunch program, heating assistance, etc.). Since 2008, prepaid cell phone companies have been allowed to offer a free handset and 250 minutes/month of service in certain states. The cost of the program is appx. $9.25/month. It's a good thing that makes a difference; you can't easily get a job without a phone number. You can read more about it at www.lifelinesupport.org.

And most amusing of all...Lifeline wasn't started by Obama. It was started by Reagan, in 1984. Ha!

@26 "Doesn't anyone here understand that a lot of people see that cell phone as a quid pro quo to secure her vote paid for with tax payer dollars? (And, apparently, a very successful one.) "

Promises of tax cuts can also be seen as a quid pro quo to secure a vote, and most tax cuts cost a lot more than a $9.25 cell phone (see comment 31).

@26,

Then why isn't she voting Republican? The free phone program started under Reagan and was expanded under George W. Bush.

And how about those tax cuts Romney is going to give you? That's not buying your vote?

P.S. Fuck off.
