Time for second sleep.
Peasant couples, who were often too tired after field labor to do much more than eat and go to sleep, awakened later to have sex. People also used this time to pray and reflect, and to interpret dreams, which were more vivid at that hour than upon waking in the morning. This was also a favorite time for scholars and poets to write uninterrupted, whereas still others visited neighbors, or engaged in petty crime.

I've happily read Slog for years, but tortured myself as a lurker in the comment section for just as long, despite my best efforts. Having never once commented (even anonymously), I do so now to say Well Done! Convincing at first, satirical in the middle, and bordering lame in the end - it was pretty great to see the howling mob that is your online community all but cannibalize itself trying to get you to stop a (hopefully) one-day gag as it drew on into the day. The one sided interaction was comedy gold, and goodness knows I needed a laugh after last night's debate.

The Stranger was founded by Tim Keck, one of the founders of The Onion. Both publications have a tradition of satire. The Onion's satire is the primary mission. The Stranger's satire is more nuanced, as they are primarily a news-based publication; they are a non-traditional newspaper, aka an "alternative weekly."

Anyway, my real point is that this is nothing new for The Stranger, which has been making fun of people for its entire existence. If this shocks you, you're new to the party.

My favorite Stranger hoax? Seattle's widely-kept secret ethnic neighborhood, Little France! That one is so old I can't find a link in the archives. But it's gold.

And this was fun. Fuck a hater.
