Shut Down! Macky's in Issaquah

From King County Public Health:

Macky's Dim Sum located at 317 NW Gilman Blvd #43, Issaquah, WA 98027 was closed by a Public Health food inspector on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 4:00 pm for the following food safety violations:

· Handwashing facilities [presumably the unavailability of them?]
· Foods not protected from cross contamination
· Improper cooling of potentially hazardous food
· Potentially hazardous foods at unsafe temperatures
· Failure to adhere to approved risk control plan

In the grand scheme of things, these don't sound that bad. (We've seen worse on the Eastside recently.) Background: Macky Wong and Sonny, her husband, ran China Gate in the I.D. for two decades—they sold it in 2008, and it has since closed. Then they ran Vegetarian Bistro—also in the I.D. and also now closed. Macky's, their place in Issaquah, has order-off-a-menu dim sum (not as fun as from-a-cart, but fresher and hotter), and some say it's great; others, predictably, say it's just pretty good for the area, maybe not necessarily better than, say, Jade Garden in Seattle's I.D., and definitely not better than the dim sum in Vancouver, B.C.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You may find out when Macky's reopens here.

If they reopen are they going to consistantly prevent foods from cross contamination and keep potentially hazardous foods at safe temperatures?

Wait..I'll let someone else find out the hard way if they don't.

Seriously, the "Potentially hazardous foods at unsafe temperatures" are so much better in Vancouver, B.C.

I've been to Macky's several times (my mother owns Kitchen Cupboard just a few doors down), and not once did I ever feel comfortable eating there. While getting a take-out order, I saw the proprietor hock a loogie and then wipe it with his sleeve... the sleeve on the arm that was bringing me my food. Now obviously it's not as though his mucous was going to slither into my food and give me plague, but if that's acceptable hygiene *in front* of customers, I shudder to imagine what went on in the kitchen. We do have an almost monomaniacal fear of contagions here in America, but yikes...
