Heading to MLK and Genesee...

By the look of it, there's a pot of gold on Cleveland High School and, on the other end, Pacific Medical Center.

Not long after taking the image, I heard a mother speaking Arabic to her son—the mother was monumental; dressed in black, she was a whole universe to the small, Americanized world of her son. As she spoke, I realized to my embarrassment that when I ever I hear Arabic, I imagine a prayer is being expressed or some praise is being made to Allah. I never imagine something mundane or scientific in the lyrical but raspy flow of Arabic words.

@2: He is admitting he has a cultural bias (like we ALL do) and expressing that he realizes it is unfair and a bias. Completely human, completely decent.

We all are under the influence of cultural stereotypes, and we do not get to control the images our minds conjure around them. The best we can do is realize we are mistaken, feel embarrased, and try to be better. Just like Charles is expressing here.

Yeah, I saw that as well earlier this morning. Quite lovely. That coupled with the gorgeous sunrise had me viewing 2 natural phenomena at the same time. Quite rare for me. I'm on the 19th floor of my building so it is possible
