Mitt Romney Says a Big Military Budget Would Prevent Military Suicides

Posted by on Thu, Sep 27, 2012 at 11:29 AM

Well! This is sleazy as fuck:

Mitt Romney saying that President Obama's proposed military cuts would lead to more military suicides is disingenuous. Obama has always run on a very strong veterans affairs platform, and Romney has no proof that President Obama would cut benefits like therapy and health care for veterans. Obama has, in fact, said that veterans affairs will not be cut while he's in office. But you know who wants to cut benefits for veterans? Paul Ryan:

...a budget proposal by top Republican Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin to trim spending at the Department of Veterans Affairs had some DAV members worried.

"If they go and approve this, we will have some of the smaller VA facilities closing down in rural states," said Gene Murphy, the state DAV director. "Then you're going to put these veterans' into the Medicare and Medicaid programs."

He didn't exactly say that.

There might be a relationship between what soldiers are expected to do and what impact those actions have on their emotional state. Just a hunch.

Where Mittens is coming from is the attitude that every soldier is an military fetishist. All they need to cheer up is to see more $100 million jet fighters flying overhead.

If only we could fight more useless wars there wouldn't be the need for suicide. Soldiers would be to busy.

@1,
No, what he said was worse than what Paul wrote.

Romeny suggested that Obama doesn't care that veterans are committing suicide - that he's just "standing by."

It was senate republicans that blocked a bill to help veterans find employment - a bill that was written BY REPUBLICANS. They blocked their own fucking bill, with a big middle-finger salute to the troops, to play their political games.

Your candidate is a sleazy scumbag and your party is even worse.

Romney is mostly upset that their funerals are on the public dime. Typical 47 percenters, expecting Uncle Sam to pay for their coffins and flags.

@1, it's estimated that lifetime care and rehab for our wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars (and support for their families) will cost $2 TRILLION or more.

I'm thinking we should cut the military budget by 30-50% and put $200-300 billion per year into a VA trust fund.

What do you think, exactly?

There's that military Keynesian thinking again. "Given the need for jobs", why is Obama cutting the military? OK, so federal spending to boost employment is apparently fine and dandy when it comes to the military, but anywhere else and it's socialism?

Rove falsely claimed Obama admin. Pushing Vets to "assisted suicide"

As a vetran cutting the VA would be devistating! It took the VA over a year to complete my claim and not its taking them 6 months to pay me the retro pay back to my retirement AND I got my claim in before I left active duty putting it on the fast track to get done! Imagine what vets will look forward to if they cut staff and put more of a burden on already over worked VA employees? Vetrans have died waiting for help from the VA because they can't handle the load they already have!

Is it just me, or have we been seeing less of Gay Dude for Romney around these parts recently? Whattsa matter, GDFR? Are the checks from the Romney campaign bouncing?

Patty Murray should be able to effectively rebut this specious reasoning.

The "fiscal cliff" cut to the military is about 10x too small.

Romney just says whatever he thinks will get the audience in front of him to vote for him, and then later, let's his campaign quietly make a correction, saying that Romney didn't really mean what he said.

GDfR is right Paul, Retroactive Man didn't exactly say what you claim he said, he merely implied it. Once again the genius of Retroactive Man at work.

Once he is elected he can trim spending at the Department of Veteran Affairs, freeing those slackers from their dependence on the Government and their miserable lives as part of the 47%.

Boost defense spending, thus keeping the promise he just made. Start a war with Iran thus providing Keynesian stimulus the economy needs by infusing it into the closed Socialist community that protects his Plutocracy while providing no benefit for the rest of us.

All while telling the rest of the country that he is keeping his "promise" to provide for our defense and care for our veterans, the healthy ones anyway.

Gay Dude for Retroactive Man.

I think Mittens should teach a class on French Military Strategery, entitled "I Am Not Fighting, And So Can You!"

And then lard up his comrades with military supply contracts for stuff we don't need.

Like more aircraft carriers.
