Crime / City Man Reportedly Shot in the Hand During Apparent Robbery Downtown

About a half hour ago, a 35-year-old man was shot in the left hand during what police say was a robbery at the Jewelry Express near Westlake Center at 6th Avenue and Stewart Street. A suspect, reportedly wearing a rubber mask, was apparently taken down by several onlookers and detained on the ground until officers arrived. He's been arrested and the shooting victim is reportedly in stable condition (but won't be playing the piano any time soon).

I work in a building kitty corner to where this all went down. Our local Real Change vendor helped tackle the shooter.

I think it's worth noting that a criminal, armed with a gun, was stopped and apprehended by people that didn't have themselves have guns.

Aren't jewelry robbers supposed to escape through tunnels...put the loot underneath a seat on the LINK train and then have their accomplish retrieve it at SeaTac station and fly to Brazil?

The robber should be thankful that SPD were not first on the scene. He'd likely be dead.
