The Obama Team's Speedy Delivery

Posted by on Thu, Sep 20, 2012 at 5:29 PM

As I told you a short while ago, the Romney campaign is trying to misquote President Obama into a gaffe, the way they did with the whole "you didn't build that" quote. Now, as Ari Melber notes, the Obama campaign has already responded with a video that contextualizes the quote:

This really is lightning-fast work for such a professional video. Now we have to wait to see if the Romney campaign continues with the attack or drops it; that's the only way to really know if a response ad is successful or not.

Love it. That's what I want him to do. Continue campaigning after the election putting pressure on Congress to act...

It's really remarkable how Obama's face shows no tension or fear; just confidence and competence. How great is it to be pitted against an opponent who has buckets of the former and a dearth of the latter qualities.

That said, the moiré patterns generated by the side panels of the audience risers (and to a lesser extent by Obama's shirt and tie) are distracting. Just curious whether those can be reduced or eliminated during video editing.

I think it's a nice ad and agree in theory, but don't know that it's necessarily an effective policy or legislative tool (seeking pressure driven from the populace that is.) I only say so as he did exactly that during the debt ceiling fiasco and we saw how that played out. And yeah, the obstinate GOP shares plenty of blame, but it was frustrating from every angle.

@4: I think the true test of that policy comes in November. Hopefully some of that frustration will be expressed as votes against Republicans.

I have to agree with you.
I think the problem is that either the person is inclined to work with Obama or against Obama.
And they were probably elected based upon that.
So they either don't need encouragement to work it out
or
the encouragement they will be receiving will be to keep blocking Obama.

The time to get the people to help you pass legislation is during the elections for the House and the Senate.

The Republicans and Tea Party understand that.
They ruin the country's credit rating before they'll work with Obama.

Romney made the exact same comment in 2007. What's the big deal? Why is it a gaffe to point out that given the political gridlock (Republicans refusing to do their work), it's almost impossible to get anything done without people putting pressure on politicians?

Why the media is pushing this "Obama made a boo boo" meme is beyond me.

And even if what Obama said is a "gaffe", Romney saying that he doesn't worry about 1/2 the population is a much worse gaffe because it shows how he feels about so many of his fellow citizens: disdain and contempt.
